Black screen after Choidujour update on Emunand

Hey guys, first time posting here after having already exhausted all options.

I'm currently on OFW 6.1 with exFat sd card running on SXOS 2.71, recently installed Emunand. I then tried to update FW for emunand via ChoidujourNX to 7.01, but after rebooting and getting into the SXOS splash screen, it showed the 1st nintendo logo then gave me a black screen when trying to get into CFW with Emunand enabled.

- When updating using ChoidujourNX, i chose exFat option, and UNSELECTED autoRCM (very sure of that, also i'm still able to boot into OFW 6.1)
- Instead of selecting "Reboot" after ChoidujourNX install, i selected shutdown now instead, not sure if that makes any difference.
- Fixes tried:
- Replacing the boot.dat in the sd card with a newly downloaded one didnt work.
- Removed Emunand, black screen resolved. Reinstalled Emunand and update again via Choidujour, same issue again.
- tested SD card with H2TestW, for a 256GB card, only about 30MB data is lost which i'm not sure if that means my card is NOT legit. Now waiting to finish slow formatting before re-trying above again.

Is there any other options i can try before i use my last resort which is format my card to FAT32 and repeat the process again? TIA!

I would honestly format to fat32 and see if it works. Just put the boot.dat and license.

What emunand are you trying to use, Hidden or SD Files?

Okay I'll try to format to fat32 later and see how it goes, will report back.

I'm trying to use emunand on sd files which begs me to ask another question. In the event emunand gives me an error msg and refused to load into the main screen (which happened a couple of times after trying to install nsp), do I have to remove and recreate emunand (which works too) or could I just remove the emunand folder in my sd card and replace with the backup I originally kept?

so i've formatted my sd card to Fat32, created an emunand using sd files. Then proceed to update 7.01fw without exFat option via choi. Installation seems okay, but after rebooting into emunand, i got stuck at the Switch logo instead of the usual black screen after the nintendo logo.... REALLY frustrated at this point.

One thing i did noticed during the choidujour installation, there should be 211 nca files, and it detected 211 nca files, but during the install, it showed only 205/205 nca files installed. When my sd card was exFat, it showed 207/207 nca files installed. Is there something i'm missing here??

I'm sorry but I had previously updated the sysnand/ofw to 6.1, shouldn't that have the exfat driver installed already? Or am I mistaken about that?

Well I wont want to update my sysnand that's why I'm creating emunand for this purpose.

Secondly when I started, I had already tried formatting my card to exfat, created emunand and used choi to update fw which resulted in the black screen. Now format to fat32 but stuck at the switch logo.

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but did you activate your license before or after creating emunand?

Definitely before, I've been just using sxos cfw for some time now before deciding to try emunand and choi.

Does the emunand work right after creating it, before updating with Choi?

The emunand kinda works, I can play base xci on it but couldn't really update nsp with it. I figured it could be due to the lower fw that's why I tried choi.

At this point I've tried all kinds of "fixes" but still to no avail. Even tried to replace the emunand's boot0/1 after choi update with either the saved nand's or from the emunand before choi's update. After that, instead of a black screen, an error msg popped up instead.

Yea I am having this exact problem aswell, Ive ran out of things to try. If you ever find anything to work can you tell me about it?

Also did you update to fw 8.0.0 or 8.0.1?

If emunand was booting then emunand was working properly. There was no reason to replace the boot0/1 of emunand. Something else is causing your issue. Either your update files (which we cannot help you get) or something is still corrupt.

When you reformatted to fat32 and emunand was working did you download a new files or use the files you already had? Like the boot.dat and such?

I thought the same so after emunand i would always redownload a new boot.dat from sx's homepage to replace. I would only transfer choi and update files after emunand has been installed. Also i've tried both 1.01 and 1.02 version of choidujournx. The only thing that could be corrupt would be the update files for choidujour but i've also tried from different sources, as well as different fw like 7.01 or 8.01 to try, all garnering similar results. ☠

i would just like to report back what i've done so far that worked. Basically instead of updating the fw on emunand, i updated on the cfw instead and that worked, using exFat. Then i created the emunand after.

But when i tried to install game updates/dlc in emunand, i was constantly getting errors when loading the games. After so many trials and error again, i realised the usb stick adaptor for my sd card was the main culprit, that it basically corrupts my files after every transfer. After i changed to another card adaptor to transfer files between my pc and switch, everything just works (i felt so stupid at this point). So it could be the same problem that was causing my FW update issue as well.

So yeah, if anybody has problems, other than the sd card issue, it may well be other extraneous hardware issues. Hope this might help other users.
