Before I start, all of my solder points are good because everything else is working fine. I am using Coolshrimp's tech-modz jtag tool. I dumped two nand images, and I did check them both using another program that I downloaded (i did not see coolshrimps built in one yet). Both matched, so I wrote xell onto the console (which has old blade dash). I got my cpu key fine, and made a freeboot image using the 2nd nand image. After writing the freeboot image, all I get is a black screen when I power on. When I wrote the original nand image back (using the 2nd image) the console powered on fine, and obviously xell is not installed anymore. What caused this problem? Should I use xellous instead? Was there something wrong with my nand image that did not appear during the compare?

I had similar issues when creating a 12611 freebot from original nand with jtag tool 2.76. I now always use jtagtool 1.74 to create a 9199 freeboot then use that 9199 freeboot image to create the latest freeboot with jtag tool 2.85. I know its idea to work less and not more but it works in the end. Im no jtag guru so Im sure somebody will know a easier way.

Alright, I will try to use an older version of coolshrimp's tool, maybe that will help. For the other guy on information, I have a xenon board, it says that in the little xbox info box under my posts, and I am using coolshrimp's V3.00 tool. The blade dash is: 6717, and because it is a xenon it only has one wiring diagram. BTW, what are QSB's? And this should not make a difference but I am using a usb flasher that I bought.

buddy dont be a smart ass or you will find yourself finding help else where there is people doing Jtags here 24/7 so everyone posts what board it is how it was wired and so on, don't like it move on because you see that XBOX 360 Setup your on about is normally there retail xbox and even if it wasn't you would still be asked.
!!!! And QSBs is Quick Solder Boards.... also it would have being in your own interest to update to 7371 then make a fb.

dude, I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I'm new here so I thought you were asking a stupid question, or just weren't sure for one reason or another. Also, I don't have a quick solder board, and I am seeing that I should maybe use an older version of coolshrimps program to jtag, then update the dash with a usb of the newest freeboot that uses the new dash. Anything else you could think of?

You dont need to use an older version. V3.00 has everything and more than what the older version had. for nand compair click the wrench button and it opens another menu on the right side. Do a search on here for JTAG Tool and you will find some good TUTs on it.

Well it sounded like it everyone is asked no matter what it is drive / jtag so on for all details other wise we end up playing a guessing game and an hour gone by anyway nvm i would update the dash to 7371, Freeboot is based on stock 7371 so its recommended you update your system to that version and there is nothing wrong with the latest jtag tool i have used it over and over.
Your only going to give yourself more work by using the old tool anyway thats up to you buddy.

^ J2G is correct. The reason you're getting the black screen is because the original NAND image was not of 7371. Either you write back the original image, update it to 7371, then use the 7371 image to make the freeboot 12625. Or, you make a freeboot 9199 image using Jtag Tool 3.00, then use this image to make freeboot 12625 image. Its upto you, but I would personally recommend the first method.

Alright, thanks for the tips. Just one more quick question: If I update the dash to 7371, would I be able to use my original 6717 nand to flash the dash back to that version if I needed to? And I am new to this, so I would just download a 7371 nand image to update it to that version correct?

Your not downloading 7371 nand you are going to be updating your Jtag 360 to 7371 dash the proper way buddy look here >> Dashboard Update To 7371 For Freeboot
Then you are going to bump your nand again but this time your original nand is going to be the 7371 bin and you are going to use this to make your fb image and all should be good then.

Alright, sounds good. I'll try this out tonight, thank you guys for your help. Just curious, if I ever wanted to bring the dash back to 6717 for whatever reason, I could do this correct? As long as you know your CPU key you should be able to do this to my understanding.

I just came across some information that might mess things up if I would have tried to update the dash. I soldered my own wires to the board, and I seeing people say that you need to turn the switch to OFF before you update, and obviously I don't have an off switch. Would I need to desolder anything, or just make sure that the motherboard is not connected to my pc? If I do need to desolder, would it just be the jtag wires, or would I have to desolder the nand-reader wires as well?

Alright, I got everything to work successfully. I'm running the newest dashboard, and I already tested out xex menu and booting a game off of an external hard drive. Thank you guys for all the help, and now that I know what's what, I can hopefully help others with their projects. You guys can close this forum or whatever you do on here.

You can also double check your cpu key, this also happened to me with the black screen - turned out i read a "c" which actually was an "e" :)

*EDIT: Woops.. didn't see that you fixed it. my bad :)
