I have read alot about this and have found it to be that I have a 1.6b xbox and flashbios of 3.0.1 which is incompatible. Now, I have been trying to find a way to upgrade this chip without another xbox or send it away and I do not wish to buy another one.

Is there anything else I can do? Further more is there a programmer for the X3 that I can use, as I can't seem to find out anything about it if there is one.

Please help

was on same boat, and note to all new X3 purchases to check what version they have first and make sure you order the correct preflashed chip and not given old stock.

Change switches and it should work if it is new stock.
And after you get it going, flash your back up bios with 3.0.3 to be safe and so your backup bios is not totally useless.

Right. Tried all of that now. Tried every switch individually. Nothing happened.

Holding eject and power does nothing but make the switch leds go a funny purple colour.

I forgot to mention this was the original X3, not a CE, which I am sure were not available then.

There is one other funny thing. When it does eventually settle after booting with the chip on, the eject light is solid amber. What does that mean?

Cheers

Traditionally this means that the Xbox is overheating. I'd check to see if your fans are still connected.

Amber can also mean video problems. are you using stock standard M$ cables, and do you have them plugged in while your booting your xbox?

Also, you have a 1.6b, which needs flashbios 3.0.3 Since you've got an old X3 you may not have 3.0.3 loaded. Flash the chip using an older xbox, (but still use the v16plus bios).

Is there any other way to flash the chip besides another xbox? I don't know anyone else with an X3 and I don't want to try solder on another one (had a horrible time with this one).

Is there not an external programmer for this?

Not readily available. I heard that the X2 programmer had a chance of being compatable... but i never heard if that was confirmed or not, sorry.

You can send the chip to any repairer/installer to be flashed with 3.0.3 or you can send it to your supplier for reflashing.

Other options: Buy a new X3CE and try to sell your old X3.
Get a mate to buy an Xbox and fit an X3 to it.
