Hi all I have a benq drive spare which I am gonna use with the 0800 firmware. I attached it to my CK3i pro and its not recognised in windows and when using the CK3i eject button nothing happens either. I did blank the drive some time ago and left it like that with no firmware written to it, could this be the reason why its not showing up? Any pointers would be appreciated as always guys thanks.

Yes, bad flash recovery will do the trick if the drive isn't totally foobared. You will need a Probe 3 or home-built PMT in order to do this, everything is explained on the page diaboliq20 stated :).

ok so far no luck with the vendor intro to drive just keeps on going little dots before my eyes arghhhhh.
However When reading the JF tutorial on the benq badflash method I read the following
"This version of badflash recovery should NOT be needed for VIA 6421 cards" I happen to have a VIA 6421 card so what should I be doing?? To try to get this bugger of a drive back to life. Again any help is appreciated guys as always.

See this thread, it contains information about bad flash recovery and how to do it.
Tried all that it suggests and still a no go, I think where I may be going wrong is that fact that all the stuff ive been reading suggest a bad flash etc, meaning something is written to the drive. Where Ive made the mistake I think is that I erased the drive completely meaning that there was nothing written to the drive at all I just erased it then detached it and then left it thinking I would write the 0800 firmware to it and use it as a specific ripping drive for my originals. Any other suggestions would be welcome guys thanks again for the help.

yeah, i guess when i wrote that in the tutorial it wasn't completely accurate

sometimes drives don't cooperate

make sure that you are using the correct port (THIS ONE)

then send intro/device ID to the primary, master port of the VIA card
then press yes
then power on the drive

if that doesn't work, try the badflash method using probe 3 in the tutorial
if the drive isn't fried, that works 100% of the time

additionally, make sure you have installed the VIA 530C drivers (HERE)
the newest drivers for windows cause nothing but problems

you will most likely have to install these manually (via device manager, choose my own, let me pick, have disk -> click those buttons) by navigating to the .inf file for your bit OS

then reboot your computer
then remove the drivers as in the tutorial, then reboot
then try again :)

like i said, the most recent drivers (ones received from a windows update) cause nothing but problems

What you're not telling us is the status code on the right hand side when you're trying Vendor intro.

Is it changing at all?
Nothing happens at all, Im gonna try going into DOS and using dosflash 16 see if I can get any response that way so far still not looking good. I also tried using an xbox power supply again to see if that would make a difference but still a no go. Thanks for all the replies guys the help and suggestions are much appreciated as always.

With the drive off, you should at least get a response code of 0x80.

If you're not even getting that, the drive is either dead or your SATA connection is bad.

Do you have an x360USB Pro ?
