So either your chipset isn't compatible, the wrong port is being chosen, the SATA cable is faulty or the drive is dead.

I would put money on it being one of these in the above order and would be surprised if the actual drive is dead.

Thanks for the reply Martin, well the Sata Cable is brand new the Sata position is correct on the VIA 6421 card so Im guessing that the drive is dead. Thanks for the help fellas in the bin it goes.
