I went to CMU for Electrical Engineering and I can say with confidence that being an EE doesn't magically make you a great solderer. I've messed up stuff and I've seen professors mess up even worse.

So it's not an insult to say it, but the odds are... it's your soldering. But you don't really give us much else to guess. You don't say what version your box is, what banks you've tried, whether you've tried the backup, ... Give us something to work with if you don't want the stock "it's your soldering" answer.

Oh, and this really doesn't belong in "BIOS Flashing Support" as you can't even get to that stage. Try "Help & Support".

I did the flash and now when I turn the box back on all i get is the screen with no video or sound.. The box is a 1.1 and the switch is ON ON OFF OFF OFF. I used flashbios v3.0.1.

I have tried all the banks and that resulted in me pressing the Power and Eject buttons at the same time to get back into the flashbios.. From there i used the ON ON OFF OFF OFF setting and flashed it. As soon as I turned it on it went to a blank screen with no sound or video.. I have an LCD monitor and there is no signal going to it.. I guess you are right about the soldering.. I guess I will check it again.. but i look VERY carefully and it looks great..

I havent tried a backup yet because I am not sure how that all works.. I wanted to put them on my hdd, but i have to get a dashboard and such loaded first..

The games all work fine when the mod is off, but otherwise nothing.. Thanks for your replies.. I will be sure to check my soldering AGAIN.. the 5th time.. Thanks

You flashed a FlashBIOS? You need to flash an X3 BIOS.

sorry i said that wrong..LOL.. I did not flash with flashbios3.0.1.. That was the screen it was on when i went into the flash via http.. then i used an X3 bios i got from XBINS.. thanks for your help though..

Another question.. What is usually the problem with the solder? The pins touching.. not soldered all the way down.. splashes or what.. Thanks

Exactly what X3 BIOS did you flash? What was the name?

Can you at least boot to the other 1MB bank?

to be honest i am not sure which version i used.. i used a couple different ones, cause i thought that there was a problem with the bios.. what one do you suggest and i will get it and do it tonight and see what happens..

I cannot get into the other 1mb bank, because believe it or not i flashed over that one as well.. I had to push bothe the power and eject buttons to get into the flashbios.. so none of the banks work right now..

The fact you're still booting to FlashBIOS is a good sign.

If you have a 1.1, then you're needing the BIOS called X3xxxx.bin. Don't use the one with v16plus in the name.

If you still get a blank screen after this, then pins 13 and 14 still need attention. If you're still adamant that your soldering is fine, download X2CL 5035 and flash to a spare 512k bank. If it boots, then 13 and 14 is where you need to concentrate.

great thanks a lot.. my other question was what are some of the possible soldering mistakes that could have been made? touching.. splashes.. not soldered to theboard.. What is the most common just so i know what i should be looking for.. everything look fine but i obviously have to check again..

The most likely scenario is the LPC copper ring isn't making good enough contact with the pin.

Before embarking into this, definitely try an X2 BIOS as they don't use these pins.

You can leave on the X2 BIOS and it will work fine. However you will miss out on the many features provided by X3CL.

ok i put the x2 bios on and it loaded fine.. my question now is that since that loaded fine nothing is wrong with the chip.. other than my soldering of pin 13 and 14? they are soldered all the way to the board.. i guess i will desolder them and take a look.. i dont recall seeing a copper ring.. but we will see.. wish me luck.. please let me know if there could be anything else wrong with the chip.. if i could load the x2 bios that means all i need to do is resolder the 13 and 14 again? thanks sooo much

Yes, if the X2 BIOS is working fine then the problem is definitely the soldering on pins 13 or 14 (or both).

You can check for continuity - pins 13 and 14 link to the EEPROM on the Xbox motherboard. I can't remember exactly which pin goes to which leg, but you should have continuity from ONE EEPROM leg.
