Hi guys, a client brought back a Zephyr which I sold after I bought it used myself, and RGHed it, and it seemed that the console overheated and game him 2 red lights. I took it apart (it already came with the Xecuter rrod kit screws), put some new thermal paste, and all was well. He took it home, said he played for a few minutes, then got a black screen. Gave it back to me, and I noticed that when I turn it on, there is just the single green light in the ring, and I can hear the fans revving momentarily, but very frequently (like once every second), whereas normally they do this like once every 6 or 7 seconds when the RGH is working fine. I tried checking the solder to the chip but I think I narrowed it down to the motherboard: the console came with these washers that you can see in the pictures, and they scraped the board a little when putting back the heatsink on the CPU. Could this be the problem? The screws shorting out the board? Also, I flashed back the original nand, and when I boot it up, get 3 quick fan revs, then RROD (error 0102). Any ideas?

RROD 0102 is gonna be motherboard failure, likely a reflow/reball is in order, it is a Zypher after all.

The RROD kit is installed incorrectly, there are no washers on the bottom of the board and the scratch on the ground heatsink stud hole is not an issue to be worried about.

Why are you not using the TX CoolRunner wiring?

from the looks of that board, those bolts were cranked down way too tight if they dug into the board like that. better hope a reflow fixes it and that the solder balls arent bridged

Actually, I believe the problem is with the CPU, it was usually at 60+ degrees while the GPU usually at around 50. I just reflowed the CPU and everything's still the same. Going to try a GPU reflow later this afternoon. Just wondering why I didn't get RROD with the glitcher nand?? Do the 3 red lights only appear with retail nands?

Zephyr boards tend to have problems with the GPU. just like Xenons and Falcons. That's why your CPU reflow didn't work.

I had a board here doing the exact same thing you describe, except it was error code 0022. I honestly don't know if RROD can show up on a hacked NAND. I've heard some reports that it will, and some that it won't. Someone with more experience would be better answering that question.

OK, just so that I can clear this up, I've been working on the machine, reflowed everything, double-checked everything. It now boots up every time (re-flashed retail nand), and I am positive the problem is CPU overheating. I changed the nylon/ steel washers and since then it boots up, but I get the 2 overheating red lights after 3 to 4 minutes of idle time. This never happened to me before, could it be there's a fault in the heatsink? The paste seemed ok, it worked fine in other consoles...
