RGH Blotched Console Repair

So I bought a slim console with apparently a damaged powerpack. Turns out to be a blotched RGH job. and the whole "As is" even though it wasn't as decribed.

It just beeps and doesn't boot. I have no NAND backup or anything.

I can create a trinity ecc file using a donor nand and use that to get it into Xell right?

But first the problem I think with the console not turning on is the component at C2C5 is missing. no idea how they did it but they have.

However there is no damage to any of the points used by the coolrunner. The STBY_CLK is intact which is what i'm used to repairing.

So my big question to someone who actually knows. What is the component at C2C5 below the points used for the NAND-X so i can use a replacement from a broken phat console. or order a new one. Just don't have a slim to look at myself.

Also for some reason they have soldered the points that connect the power adapter plug to the console. They're a bit big for practiceing with? Seems F*&%ed up to me.

There is some pictures below:

But please for all the idiots who won't read this far anyway, no comments about soldering etc. I didn't do this, just cleaning up someone elses mess.

Header Points:

STBY_CLK: (looks clean and tested with multimetre)

Power Socket soldering: (WTF!!)

That's some bad soldering right there! Yikes!

Was it sold thru ebay cos if it was I would be opening a not as described case!

The person who sold it obvious knew what the problem was and sent you down the river with it. Hope you get it sorted buddy

Hay, Mate

It wasn't ebay, nz local trademe. But there is the AS-IS clause which basically means you take what you get...

I refurbish consoles as a hobby, and have been doing blotched RGH repairs here anyway, and cleaned up worce than this.
Its just I lent my own slim away so can't open it up to find out what that dam missing component is!!!

I'm not stupid though i got it at a price I can break it down for parts and easily break even. But would love to get it working! For that pride you know

looks like one resistor is missing on the STBY_CLK, other resistors may be damaged but thats why its beeping and not booting, for a decent modder its a easy fix but for a novice it very difficult. i would send it away for repair if thats an option. Chances are if the STBY_CLK point is messed up then he possibly didnt get as far as reading/writing the nand. Use a multimeter and check to see if any of the other resistors have been damaged. I usually rob the resistors off ruined boards, I believe its a SMD 330 ohm resistor but double check it first. best of luck

We have seen a few come through like this via trademe lately. We had one that was listed as near new still under M$ warranty the guy that brought it in was pissed when we showed him why it wasn't powering on.

Sending it away for repair would mean sending it to me. I'm just haven't got another slim at the moment to get measurements off. As I lent my own console to a friend :S

Might just have to go and get it back.

I'm the same as you, always using older more F'ed up boards.

It might be best to double check first ay, I will have to go get my slim back and take measurements myself.

Yea, idiots who buy chips and think they can do it themselves. I had quite a few, from Central North island actually must be someone down there givning chips to hilly billys. Namely why I don't sell individual chips.

You seen any of them with heatgun soldering?? Were there is a circle of heat damage.

Haven't seen the heatgun soldering yet lol not sure why you would even try it that way.

But hey if they want to try its their Xbox it just sux when they sell it off as a working Xbox when it has a botched install.

Had a good one the other day from a supposed professional modder just east of you man had he made a mess felt really sorry for the customer

Your just sitting there scratching your head... Thinking WHY!! Or screaming butcher...

Can't stand liars! Be honest, not a coward. And trying to brush you work under the carpet.

Professional modder just east of me?? From Henderson? I'll send you a PM i've got a few stories I can tell you about that guy, that you would love to hear! Plus I need to ask you something.

Just an update on the actual repair.

Got my own slim back ripped open the console determined the missing components were diodes. And have found replacements however...

I Need to find an alternate point for C2C3 as the pad is gone, and soldering to whats left is going to be impossibile.

R2C3 also checks out ok with the multimetre and isn't damaged by heat.

Finaly had an excuse to buy SMD multimetre tweezers for measuring components! lol!

Just waiting for the moment when i actually get the board to power up. Then have to glitch the console.

are you sure thats a diode mate as the lettering normally indicates what it is. c= cap r= resistor and so on
Yea, I though that too, but when i tested them with my metre, I got capasitance just slightly higher than the air. but a large spike when I removed the metre.

And on the diode test, power only flows one way on the components.

If someone else could test this, and confirm i'm not making an obvious mistake, would be great.

if its one of the small components next to the hana chip its a resistor, i have done more than 20 of these repairs in the last month and always resistors i robbed off an old board, if there is no reply here google the name of the component and it will come up, google is mans best friend. good luck
