Blown X3

As you can see, the bottom portion of the X3 is badly burnt. Long story short, my friend tripped over my xbox and somehow resulted in this. I am willing to buy a new X3, but the thing is my 160GB hard drive gets an error 21 when booted with no mod chip even in. My stock hard drive works perfectly fine. My question is will installing a new X3 fix the 160GB error 21 or will I have to format the drive in order to fix this?

isolate the alternate 5v pin if your having a v1.0-1.5 xbox.

the guide warns about this

this is the result.

NOTE: Before fitting the chip to the pin header we recommend you tape up the alt 5v pin (top right just above the backup flash rom) to insulate against any possible shorts. You should always make sure you use a little diligence and common sense when toying with electrical components.
Alright, I will remember to do this next install so this will not happen again. Thank You :)

About your HDD I'm too lazy to look up the error codes, but you might not have locked your HDD

You can fix the chip by bypassing the problem. Just solder a wire to the end points of the chip. I fixed mine this way. There are some posts dealing with this situation also. Look those up and you should be fine. Use key words like fried etc.
