Boot Disc?

So sorry if this has been answered in the past. I've been reading about how to play my backed up games without flashing my console by using a boot disc. Has anyone tried this? Where might I find such a thing? Or have I been led down the garden path? Thanks for your time.

For the here and now i think your looking down a dead end, i could be mistaken but i think I'd have heard about this. On top of that if it was that easy it would be a lot more popular and sought after. If anything this may be something that was, or tried to be around a few years ago. Good luck though, I'd like to hear if you find out more about this though even if it is no longer in use!

If your looking for the next step the jungleflasher tutorial has most, if not all the methods of allowing your Xbox to play your backups. ;)

Thanks a lot for your reply, unfortunately I have a pretty pitiful computer which is probably not up to the task of flashing. Perhaps someone knows of a trusted site from which I could purchase a pre-flashed disc drive or console?

it all depends on your console "slim or phat" and drive inside, "liteon, sham, benq and hitmachi". All you need really in your PC is a Sata port, If you want do it professionally you can pay money and buy hardware to make any PC be able flash your Console but for the cheapest way, If you have a Hit or sham, then its has simple and using your console to power your drive, and have the sata port into your PC and not xbox.. The benq is also very easy but the Liteon needs a probe get the key...

Your Key is whats marries your drive and motherboard on xbox, if these key's don't match then your console wont play games, so your key is an amazing and very important thing backup..

If your interested in flashing download JungleFlasher and go into Documents Folder and open JFtut.pdf, This explains everything, Just scroll down and click the Xbox image that you have, then choose drive and follow instructions

Yeah i agree with P-mitt, Flashing doesn't require alot from your computer these days and as long as you follow the instructions you should be ok. If you have a phat Xbox you should be alright, The slims are a bit more complicated i think when it comes to getting the key. As far as online i'd be careful, i myself would seek out someone in my general area and take it to them. Its to easy to just not send back the Xbox or keep the money you sent to there paypal. Although if i had no choice i would look on the forums here for someone who has posted more than once, when i made a listing i seen several people that for the most part looked legit

BUT, i would suggest a looking into buying a 360usbpro v2 and learning to do it yourself, your out 80 or 90 bucks but that way if anything requires you to reflash or flash to stock your not left waiting on someone else to do it. If i can walk my wife through the process i think anyone can do it. On top of that the 360usbprov2 takes most of the issues your computer could cause, or you yourself for that matter onto itself.

Thanks again. I took your advice and attempted to flash it myself. The problem I now have is that my disc drive is a Hitachi 47 model and from what I'm reading this is one of the most frustrating drives to try to flash. I've read the JF tutorial, the drive is obviously in mode-b as it takes pushing the eject button twice to open and close the tray but I keep getting the same "No Hitachi Drives Found" message no matter how many times I refresh or scan or switch ports. I've installed the newest portio 32 driver, I've checked the device manager to see if there are any deactivated disc drives, I've tried all my SATA ports, I've put music cds and dvds and games into the drive trying to get it recognized to no avail. I may not be super tech savvy but I'm an intelligent person and a relatively fast learner but this is making me wish I hadn't quit smoking! Any advice on what to do next?

Let me get it all straight in my head, you have your signed portio working, jungleflasher is going, you just cant see the drive despite being able to get it in mode B? Were you ever able to see it? This could be due to you not having that VIA card if you never seen it. If thats the case you should defiantly wait and buy one from ebay or somewhere. When i first started i did this with just my computer and the 360 to power the drive, but now i have all the gadgets and life is so much easier. Going with only your computer you can do it yeah, but if your Xbox powers down your screwed, or if your PC freezes your screwed.

I've only done a handful of those, but i'll do what i can to help you out until someone with more knowledge reply's.

Thank you so much for all your help but I'm pretty sure I bricked my drive :duh: I updated all my cpu's drivers and got it to recognize the drive but when it came time to flash the new firmware I got a "cannot open file" message and while I was searching the web for the right fw pack the console powered down. Now I can't get it to recognize at all, before I could see it on the left side of the screen and tell it to open and close with JF, now it's like there's nothing there. I've done some research and found that you can recover a drive from a bad flash as long as it's not a Hitachi :( So I went to http://www.flashedxbox360s.com/ registered and placed an order. Some of their custom machines are pretty slick :p
So thanks again Dragkhar for all your help!

Ouch, we all kill one 360 though lol. Better luck next time, and those drives are rare so i doubt you'll get one again.
You were saying it just powered down though, you only brick it if its in the middle of the write or erase phase though, if it was just sitting idle while you were looking i think you still have hope.

If you cant figure it out and plan to trash it i'll PM you my address and take a crack at it if you want.
(only the drive itself)

For now I'm setting it aside until I'm not angry at it anymore. If I decide to get rid of it I'll let you know :)
