boot up problem with x3

Hi, I can't seem to find anyone with this problem after spending an hour searching through the forum. I have the x3 installed using the pinheader on a 1.3 xbox. When I plug the power cable back on the xbox immediately boots up except it frags and I get a black screen. It never powers down to allow me to use the reset switch!

Thought it was the soldering job on the pinheader but I've checked them multiple times until I can't see any potential problems by eyeballing them. Then I used a voltmeter and checked the voltage on the pins when the xbox is powered up and everything seems fine according to this page http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/lpc-diag.php.

When I plug the yellow reset/selector cable back into the orginal place I can plug power cable back in without it booting up. But when I boot it up it frags with blackscreen. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Ok, I've peeled back the sticky padding on the back of the modchip to test connectivity of the pin-header to the modchip. Inserted modchip in pin-header, powered up and tested the voltage. Everything has the correct reading apart from pin 5 which has 0.2v instead of 3.3v and pin 1 has 0.0v instead of 0.2v. Is this normal for a failed boot? Popped the modchip out while the machine is still powered on and the voltage is till the same so I assume connectivity is ok. Could this just be a bad modchip?

Is it safe to power up the xbox and hot plug the modchip in when all the pins has the right voltage? I don't want to try this without asking cause I know on a failed boot with nothing connected, pin 1 reads 0.8v on my machine instead of 0.2v. I've read on the forum that the usually reading for peopel is 1.6v. So any one got any advice or ideas?

Re: can't put samsung ix 1.4 into vendor mode

1st. 0800 (or activate.iso) needs to be burn to the 1st layer only of a dual layer dvd

2nd. samsung drive must be able to read disks (if it can't, POT tweak or swap PCB into good samsung)

3rd. with samsung powered off, press intro/device id (then the yes button)

4th. power on samsung and insert 0800 disk, when your samsung is finished reading the disk, it will go into vendor mode

Re: can't put samsung ix 1.4 into vendor mode

there will be no layer break as it will not take up more than the first layer

use imgburn and tell it to burn to the first layer only!
