Is there a way to boot the Xbox without the Coolrunner other than desoldering the power wire? I am trying to see if my Xbox is not booting or if the Coolrunner is taking its sweet time to reset the CPU.

In case you have CAP bridged or 68nf installed, remove it also, cause it seems it makes some kind of interference when booting, causing rrod,or freezing. Not on all consoles of course.

To ad to the wisdom of Martin C, you should be flashing your nand back to stock. You probably know this already but I thought I would throw it out there since you didn't mention it. :D
Would I need to do this just to do a test boot?

I don't have to use XeLL to flash the Nand right? Can I use the Nand-X without the Xbox powering on?

Is there a guide to removing the Coolrunner?

I didn't mention NANDs as I thought it was pretty obvious you couldn't boot an RGH image without glitching the console.....
Isn't this the noob section.

It is.

As a noob, you should be reading ALL guides and stickys before posting. You acually accepted an updated list of rules recently to this effect. In your case, it was 26/03/2012 @ 22.59.

From what you're asking, you've read nothing.
