Booting to backup rom - sometimes blank screen.

I have my X3 installed for a few days and all appears to be well. No problem booting with the chip either enabled or disabled and it flashed first time with no problem. I would say the the quck press of the power button really is a QUICK press.

Anyway, I can get the xbox to boot to the backup bios by pressing the eject and power buttons (version 1.6 box with 3.00 on backup rom). However, is it just my xbox, or is there a knack to doing this. If I don't get the timing of this just right, the xbox will turns on, but I gat a blank screen. This is only trying to boot to the backup rom!

As I say, normal operation with the chip either enabled or disabled is 100%, and I know that I will probably not need the backup rom, but I just wanted to check that the "issue" I am having is normal, or is there a problem with my soldering that will cause more problems down the line? Note that I do not have the bank switch installed as this looked like something the kids would have broken within 30 minutes.

I flashed the chip from a 3.01 bios installed on bank 1.

Note that I can boot to the backup rom, it's just my xbox seems very particular about the timing of pressing the two buttons.

how do u flash the backup rom? or is it not flashable... :?:
I just flashed the backup rom to version 3.01, using the guide here.

So it's not an issue with version 3.00 and version 1.6 boards, as I can still reproduce the problem. Note that I can still suceessfully boot to the backup rom if I get the button press right.

Do you have to get the button presses just right and is what I am seeing normal?

i have noticed that to get to the backup rom you really gota hit the two buttons at the same time.

alright, i guess when i wrote that i didnt really emphasize (or however you spel it) that it can be a little tricky to hit those two buttons at the exact same time. Or maybe im not good at hitting buttons or something

NeOnRaBbIt, if you don't get the button presses just right, do you get a blank screen or does it boot up ok (X3 enabled/disabled)?

It sometimes takes me a couple of tries to get to the backup ROM, you do indeed pretty much have to hit both buttons at exactly the same time.

It would possibly be a lot simpler if:

Quick press = X3 enabled
Long press = X3 disabled
5 second press = Boot backup ROM

Would that be possible?

wel i think i was just stupid. Well you can boot enabled by either doing a quick button press of power OR eject. To disable though, its only works by holding down the power button for about a second.

You combin those two and you get to the backup. So really what you should do when you hit both at the same time is actualy hold them in for a second or two. It should work every time

I have something just a bit different.

Quick press = X3 enabled (always works)
Long press = X3 disabled (always works)
Eject button on its own = X3 enabled (always works)

Power & Eject togetther getting : single orange flash from eject button light -> backup rom; but sometimes flashing green light then blank screen depending on how the buttons are pressed.

I guess its nothing to worry about, as the quick and long press always works. I am assuming if there was a soldering issue, I would be having problems just booting with the chip enabled.

I just found out I have the same problem. Now I can boot my backup bios when I thought I couldn't. Thanks. You have a 1.6b? Cause I do.

I have a V1.6 box.

Perhaps the "issue" booting to the backup rom is just normal behaviour for 1.6 and 1.6B boxes?
