Aight so I bought a slim off a guy for $25 after he botched up his RGH install. I had sold this guy all the stuff needed to do the RGH IE coolrunner and QSB set. He had done several LED mods on controllers and ROL boards so he felt confident that he could handle the RGH process. I told the guy repetively that he needed to get some FLux before installing but alas he went ahead without it.
Here are some pics I just took. I'm wondering is it worth it to try and save? Can it be saved?

Its hard to make out in the photo but on the post QSB there are still three pads stuck to it.....

Those photos can be viewed better in my albums under Botched slim RGH install

I failed to mention that the console does not power on. The eject button makes the ding sound but the power button does not. Also the power brick stays orange.

I had the same thoughts there Martin.

I guess if I cant pull this thing out of its funk I still got a great deal on it. I should have no troubles making my money back even if I have to part it out.

I'll be getting started on this thing later today and update the thread with the results. I have seen alot worse then this but all the same this is the worst one I've tried to repair.

Glad I have a great souce of tuts to help me out here! But I may need to lean on some of you big brain guys from time to time on this!

Even if you can't salvage it you get a great learning tool for 25 bucks. I'd love the opportunity to try out some new techniques an fixes for that kind of money.

Even the leftover spare parts are worth more than that and there's plenty of practice in fixing all that by the looks of it.

i got hit up on ebay for a replacement slim drive £50 a couple of months back so you are already quids in.

looks fixable although some of the pics are very small. because of what hes been doing you dont have to look for the faults they should be obvious and under those circumstances almost anything is fixable. might take a lot of fiddly work and patience tho if he ripped up several pads:D

Just another update on the damage done on this thing. Finally got around to removing the QSB off the top of this thing. I think the damage is clear on the top side. I was gently cleaning around the area after spoting the pulled trace and I spoted the resistor in my Qtip.

That's not actually that bad. You have a solder pad on the right to anchor the replacement SMD resistor to. You just need to cut that trace wire, remove the screen off the board and solder a trace from the via to the left side of the SMD resistor. You can then use the alt. point on the bottom of the board if you still want to RGH it.

For testing purposes I went with this method. Tomarrow I will grab another resistor off another board and get her in there. For now She at least boots up to the dash board. The power buttun seems a little funky however. Doesnt allways seem to want to work all the time but thats another issue I'll deal with later. For now I'm happy that it boots.

Below is a pic of the temp fix. I know people have been doing this method but after seeing ubergeek says its freaken stupid I figured I should replace the resistor. Then again I have to wonder why this method is Stickied if its so stupid....

Well I tell you what. I got the top side all fixed up. This was the smallest wire I had available to me. I cut it off a rumbler from a controller. I know it doesnt look the prettiest due to the melted insulation on the wire but it works!

Now I'm off to try and finish the RGH process on it.

Wow. This console is tesing my Ability here! After getting it to boot up I took a Qtip and cleaned up the underside around Post Out and CPU RST. I then hooked it up again just to be sure it still booted. Wouldnt you know it straight to Red dot.

I guess in cleaning it up I must have finished off the CPU RST point that was allready pretty messed up. So I had to proceed with the Alt. point provided by Esbmaepo and now she boots again.

Last point left is the Post out. Man its been alot of work this one. Well worth it so far. I'm not only finally getting a chance to mess around with a slim but I'm also getting to try out all these Alt. points.

I'm going to close this thread now seeing as how I dont really need any help. Every bit of info I have needed has been easily found here on the Forums.

Thanks go out to a great team, great staff, and the great people who take the time to provide all the info needed.

Aight I have opened up this thread again just so that I can show the final results of my repair job. After updating it I will be closing it once again.

I routed my blue wire around the board like that because when I rolled it up the console just wouldnt glitch. I ran it around the board like so and it glitches in 10 seconds everytime!

Just to recap when I got this console it wouldnt even turn on. After fixing that it would turn on and go right to red dot. Fixed that then it wouldnt glitch! Now it is a fully working RGH system that boots within 10 seconds everytime! I am very happy with how it all worked out.

Achievement unlocked Id say!

Edit: The thumbnails are rather small. To view larger images just go to my albums where I have them all uploaded and you can view them larger.
