yesterday, i was soldering a friends xbox 1.0... and on the bottom, i was attempting to solder the d0... ive soldered around 20-25 xboxs and this is the 1st time the d0 "circle" fell off... i guess the soldering iron was too hot, even though its a 15watt.

i think the "lines" connecting to the d0 "circle" broke as well, about 5mm on each side of the d0 "circle"

before: ----o----

now: --- (broken off) ---

can i solder the d0 from the top? or is the motherboard dead now?

if i can solder from the top, anyone know where the d0 is on top?

thanks in advance

1. You're going to need to do a trace repair on the bottom d0.
2. The top d0 is mentioned in tonnes of tutorials. I'm guessing you don't own 25-30 Xboxes and you fit them for profit. Therefore, help yourself to the plenty tutorials available on this site.

Finally, the d0 point falling off? Seriously, no - not with a 15W iron! You must have really attacked it with the iron for this to happen. Suggest you improve your soldering skills.

i soldered 2 xbox's prior to this one without unplugging the soldering iron, i guess it just got too hot?

the tip was only touching the d0 for about 5 seconds and it popped off..... the xbox looked like it was in bad condition... lots of dust and dirt somehow... maybe that was a factor.

am i able to solder the top d0 without doing the trace repair on the bottom? cuz i dont know what or how to do that.

thanks :)

5 Seconds is a long time, even for a 15W iron. You should always ensure the solder points are clean and free of dust etc, as this will impact how well/badly the solder takes.

The bottom d0 is needing repair - there's no getting away from it. There's a tutorial on this site for repairing it without desoldering.

No - you'll need to either solder to another part of the bottom trace (one of the vias) or the top d0.

If you've managed to hose the bottom d0, then get someone to do this for you.

no really, its as simple as this
follow the trace back to the next via(the shiny round things you cooked off) solder a 30 aug wire(fine as hair) to that and go to the other side of the d0 and do the same, find the next non screwed via and attach wire. trace fixed.
