Brand new XBOX 1.6with Samsung DVD fault (pauses on playing large Videos in games) !

I bought a XBOX 1.6 about 4 weeks ago and the Samsung Drive is causing issues even on originals. Cannot send it back for repair as I've already modded it !
I've put my Brothers DVD drive in it and plays fine !
Game play ok when on hard disk but when large bits of video play it just pauses, for a few seconds then continues to play. I.e Jerky video in FABLE and Kung Fu Chaos intro
Not sure if to buy the MADCATZ DVD cleaner £12 (any other suggestions ?) or just buy a thomson drive for £20. I feel gutted paying £50 for another Samsung drive.

Any ideas if cleaner is likely to fix it or shall go straight for the thompson ?

I wouldn't go for a Thomson. You probably just got a bad Samsung. In general, they are FAR better than the Thomson drives. There are some exceptions, but not many. Worst case scenario is you need to get a new drive off of Ebay .... but I'd stay away from the Thomsons.

So games playing of the HDD freeze as well? And you still think it's the DVD drive?

Took your advice bought a new SAMSUNG DVD drive from www.consoleplus.co.uk works great now
