Try putting the disc into the dvd drive, swtich off the xbox and then switch it back on so it loads the disc before booting to the dash

and bear in mind that some xbox drives dont read some media....

so it may be a problem of your drive not being capable of reading this specific dvd - cd

alright that was your biggest mistake. If you want to go ahead and pirate all the sh*t you want just go to blockbuster and steal their sh*t. And if you read sh*t about an x3 you would know all you need to do is hit the power button ONCE to boot enabled. And i'm pretty surprised you got a pre-mod that had all the dash's and apps installed for you already. I'm sure they ripped you off pretty bad too.

How to reflash xbox 360?

Okay, so I'm new to this forum and new to modding. I know a few general terms but that's about it.

So recently, I bought a modded 360 and a few days ago my cousin wanted to watch a movie off his USB but it didn't work. So apparently, he updated the system because it needed the media update. So now my 360 freezes at the 360 logo if the modded game is in there when I turn it on or it reads the disc if my 360 is already on but when I hit play, it stays at the black screen.

I would prefer not to have to pay to get it reflashed, so I was wondering where I should start if I wanna reflash it myself. Thanks in advance for any help!

You should start with the Jungle Flasher tutorial. You can download the Jungle Flasher software and the Jungle Flasher tutorial in the downloads section, here and here, respectively.

The Jungle Flasher tutorial is a bit outdated as it doesn't cover new hardware such as the X360USB Pro or PMT / Probe 3. If you have a LiteOn drive, you should take a look at the Pogo Mo Thoin (Non-Cap) using Jungleflasher tutorial, also under Downloads.

You can get these things from the official Jungle Flasher website as well: JungleFlasher.net.

On the website, on the Downloads page under Guides and Tutorials, you will also find the following tutorials:
  • The Firmware Mod - A beginner's Guide
  • JungleFlasher Troubleshooting Guide

I suggest you have a read through the beginner's guide, and the troubleshooting guide if you run into problems that are not covered in the Jungle Flasher Tutorial FAQ.

If you have an incompatible SATA chipset and don't want to mess with getting a SATA card, you can buy the Xecuter X360USB Pro which will allow you to connect any drive to your computer via USB (you will still need a connectivity kit to power the drive, or simply use the Xbox 360 itself for power, though this may be trickier). The X360USB Pro is 100% compatible with Jungle Flasher.

EDIT: Just to be clear, updating your Xbox 360 (as you have described) will not remove any hacked firmware on the DVD drive. It sounds to me you have downloaded the latest 'Kinect' dashboard and you are trying to run AP2.5 games without LT+. IXtreme LT+ v1.1 also provides better support for different media types, so updating your drive with the latest firmware should solve your problems.

Is there a particular section in the tutorial I should jump to, to get this rolling faster. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the quick response and am willing to read the entire thing if I have to but I would definitely like to avoid reading unnecessary things. Thanks again for the quick response. :D

Edit: Also, what would I need just to update the firmware? I've watched a couple of youtube videos and so far I've heard transfer cable, power supply and usb. Do I need all of those just to update to the latest firmware?

On the second page of the Jungle Flasher Tutorial is says:
DO NOT TRY to read this tutorial by scrolling through all the pages!
It is not sequential in any way!
Use the flowchart links and links at bottom of each section to take you directly to
the correct instructions for your situation!
Trying to read through each page regardless IS POINTLESS!
If you are using Adboe Reader to read the PDF, you can view Bookmarks by going to View > Navigation Panes > Bookmarks. The tutorial is very easy to follow if you take the time to read. You can quickly jump to the specific section for the type of drive you have. You can go to the section Which Drive Do I Have? to determine which type of drive you have.

For determinging your drive type I have also put together a little page the goes into a bit more detail, found here. Do you already know what type of drive you have? Do you have the original or dummy firmware for you drive? If so, you can save a lot of time by just writing to the drive and not having to read the firmware / key from it again.

At the end of the Jungle Flasher Tutorial there is a section titled Common problems and Frequently Asked Questions. If you get stuck, skim through that section.

Did you read through The Firmware Mod - A beginner's Guide (by JungleJim)? It goes over the basics of flashing your drive and the tools needed. However, it is outdated in the fact that now, a special USB to SATA adapter (Xecuter X360USB Pro) can be used to connect any Xbox 360 DVD drive to your computer without O/S, driver or SATA configuration issues. Also, there is now a very easy, no solder method to extract the key from all LiteOn drives that is not mentioned in these tutorials. The PMT or Xecuter Probe 3 can be used to extract the key from any LiteOn drive.

If you have the money and want to keep things very simple, you can get yourself an X360USB Pro, Probe 3, CK3 Pro or Lite, and (if you are not able to use your computers PSU) an external Molex PSU. With these tools, you can flash every Xbox 360 DVD drive. You can order these tools from www.ck3.co.uk here.

You can skim through the JungleFlasher Troubleshooting Guide if you have issues as well.

Please let us know what type of drive you have and whether you have your drive's DVD key or original / dummy firmware and I'll let you know what your options are.

This sounds like your playing an AP2.5 Game that now wont boot becuase of the Ap2.5

Is the game your playing
Assasins Creed borther hhod, nfs hot pursuit, black ops, fable 3 Halo Reach or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2... if this is correct you have now got a flagged xbox360 unless you turned the console off before 3 mins..

download xval2.0 and put in your serial number and xvalue and it will tell you if your flagged..

Yea, it was Black Ops. He let the entire update process happen so I don't know what it means to be flagged but it most likely is.

If it helps, it seems like its a Benq drive. I only saw 1 white wire not 2 like in the tutorial, is should still be Benq though right?

I bought the 360 modded so I don't have any of that original information. It seems like it will cost me a lot more to get the tools myself than to just get it reflashed by someone on craigslist. Do I really have to start over from the beginning if its already been flashed? If so, do you guys think I should just get someone on craigslist to do it?

I assumed it would be a problem playing AP2.5 games as well. How much do people in your area charge for flashing DVD drives?

Flashing a BenQ drive is very simple. It requires no special hardware. You can use the Xbox 360 for power and just connect it to a SATA port on your computer.

However, you seem not willing to read through the tutorials and guides or spend any money on tools to flash it yourself. If you bring it to someone else, you will be saving yourself lots of time, money, and possibly a bricked drive.

The whole idea of asking was to save myself some money. I just wanted to gather some quick details on things I would need before I spend time reading through the tutorial thoroughly. Since you say its simple to flash a Benq drive, I think I may give it a go, although you have me a little worried about bricking the drive now that you mention that's a possibility.

I think people in my area charge ~$20-40 to flash 360's, but I'm a broke college kid so I'm trying to save money.

I'll read through the tutorial now and come back here if I have anymore questions. Thanks guys.

Edit: Just got to the part about the firmware(Stock FW iXtreme 1.41 / 1.5 / 1.61), how do I know which firmware I have?

You'll have to guess, if it doesn't work then choose the other option. You said your Xbox 360 was modded so it will not have stock firmware on it. I would go with iXtreme 1.5 >
iXtreme 1.61
first and if that doesn't work then go with Stock FW > iXtreme 1.41 Or iX LT.
