bricked DVD drive BEFORE I could even flash. Advice needed.

I think I've bricked my 59DJ.

I was messing about with the power cable trying to get it set up for the cross wire thing. It wont do anything at all now.
It says opening, closing or reading if I press the button, but nothing happens.
I thought I'd maybe I'd damaged the DVD power/SATA cable, But I bought a replacement set to make sure and I have the same issue still.
Everything else on the machine seems fine, just not the DVD

I have no access to another 360 to cross check/swap

1 - So... Can it be fixed.
2 - If so then how.

3 - If not then what are my options for a replacement drive
4 - I'd like one pre-modded, but since I didn't even get as far as a flash then I assume I have no key. does this mean I would need a new virgin drive
5 - If so then does it matter which make/model etc. I was having real problems getting to modeB so would I be better getting a Samsung?
6 - Any recommendations for sellers.

Lots of questions I know, but any help is greatly appreciated.

What exactly did you do? Did you cross the wrong pins (1&8 vs 0&9)?

1. If you did what I mentioned above, or put the power plug in upside down, then there wont be any fixing your drive. IF this is the case, you have fried a lead on the mn103 controller which controls the status of your tray.

2. Remains to be seen.

3. At a minimum, you should be able to get your drive in modeB (even if you did whats stated above). You need to do this and dump your firmware to get your drive key. This is essential because without it, there will be no replacing your drive. Assuming you can get your key, you can replace it with any drive you want.

4. You could get one preflashed if you gave the person your drive key. You do not need a new virgin drive, it can be used from another console.

5. No, version doesnt matter. You will have to make whatever replacement drive you get report that it is a v59 hitachi (very easy to do).

6. Lets see if thats required....

Re: bricked DVD drive BEFORE I could even flash. Advice need

I managed to get the two wires/pins out of the connector with a view to putting two wires in to cross.
After seeing how fiddly it was going to be I put the pins back into the connector and put the connector back into the drive. (I thought there was too much chance of messing it up and was planning on buying the connectivity kit, which I now wish I'd done in the first place)
That's why I bought a replacement set of cables as I'd actually done very little (looks like enough though)
Once I powered the 360 back up it the drive wouldn't open although it would say either opening, closing or reading, just nothing actually happens.

It sounds like a fried controller lead like you say.

If so, then is is still the same procedure to get it into modeb and get the firmware?

If I can't get the firmware out does it mean my brick is bigger than I first thought?

Update -

Tried all day to get into modeB to no avail.
I'm sending the DVD PCB away to someone who has a programmer (and soldering skills) who is going to retrieve the firmware so I can us it in a new drive.
This is getting expensive.
