oh well back to square 1 lol. after even more succesfull scans (almost verbatim standards) the liteon has decided to go back to its old ways again. it has done the same as it did with aones. burnt first 20 with no probs at all then decided to not burn any.
these philips i thought where excelent burns (heres the last scan)

next 5 all after that have failed. so i burnt at 4x and disabled everything and then reflashed firmware etc all to no avail.then tried at 2.4x and still same. they went from excelent to not burning at all. i cant emphasise enough how much i hate liteon burners lol. going to try aones again see what happens again.

here is my Windata result using Asus 24B1ST (ihas124)

i noticed the second layer is always higher after every burn .... hmmm

not really sure how to combat it

second layer will almost allways be higher values than the first. its the nature of the disk as it has to read through layer 1 to reach layer 2.
that doesnt look like a bad scan to be honest. i am just doing some aone (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67) at 2.4x with write strat RICOHJPN-D00-001 over sped to 4x. i will save a scan next time but they are around 40 max pif average 6 and pi of 3 average 0.2

I edited the fw to 2.4x only, you just have to edit the media id. to 2.4x. In my case i changed my media type to work with my memorex as well :p

yes you need a copy of media code speed edit. you load the firmware in and you can swap strategies that your burner uses..use 1 that as closely matches the original as you can that supports 2.4x eg if you have mkm003 that burns at 4x min use the mkm001 strat to get 2.4x.
also if you enable overspeed from your drives options in imgburn you will have the option to burn at 2.4x / 4x / 6x / 8x /12x depending on media giving you the option of 2.4x and 4x on the same media.

i found on some disks that swapping with a 2.4x strat and overspeed burning them at 4x gives better scan results than burning at 4x with the native strat

another thing i am starting to learn and kind of remember the same problem with all my older liteons is swapping media between burns.
i think this is becuase of the smartburn option which annoyingly you cant disable. for some reason the first 20 burns are all great and then the drive which is supposed to learn better burns unfortunately tends to learn how to be a sh*t burner lol. reflashing and changing things over and changing strats and speeds etc doesnt do anything. the only way is to swap the media over to a totaly different type and it starts to learn from scratch. then once they start to fail repeat as before.

as an example i used some aone which the first 20 all burnt perfect then started to fail they would fail the OPC part so wouldnt even burn. as they didnt burn they where still blank. i tested the last 5 in the caketub and all 5 failed. i then swapped for the new philips disks (see above) and they started to burn perfect. after 20 burns they started to fail. so i decided to try the others that failed before and low and behold they passed the OPC this time and burnt and verified and the scans where to me acceptable. all 5 of the ones that failed burnt this time. so i need to have a few different media types lying around then i can stop my drive learning to be sh*t lol

The answer is so so simple.

The Liteon drive you have is obviously not very good quality so just get another one.

They work perfectly, but there is always the occasion where you get a bad one.

Rocket science.

come on uber. you know a lot of us are tramps who will do anything to save a few pennies lol. allow us to indulge ourselves.
i'll do anything to save a few quid. i mean last year when it was windy i ran out and collected the wind in plastic bags so when it came to summer and got hot i could use them and save money on air conditioning.

oh and heres my scan of a previous non working disk this is write strat swapped with a 2.4x RICOHJPN-D00-001 oversped burnt at 4x

(Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67)
Source Media Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x
Advanced Settings - Force HT: Yes, Online HT: Yes, OverSpeed: Yes, SmartBurn: Yes, OPC: On

You can use a simple analogy. If you have a sports car and you put cheap gas in it don't expect anything but a cloud of smoke. You want results spend a few bucks more and pay for the premium gas and you'll be doing 0-60 in 3 seconds flat =)

that analogy isnt as simple as it sounds lol.
you can also put crap gas in a decent engined car and it will run better than a crap car with decent gas in it. but this is a 360 forum not an automobile forum lol
