okay so I currently use Burnermax payload tool in conjunction with imgburn to burn disc. I have burned back-ups of Rise of The Guardians that work and have encountered a problem finalizing disc at 99%, when it comes to newer games. I can only assume this is because of the xdg3 feature in the games?? However, I do not want to go search and purchase a new drive if I do not have to. On the other hand If i were to do so, would I then be able to use xbox backup creator to make backups of my disc instead of my current method of ripping converting patching over and over until I make a stable copy? When I run the payload tool it does seem to be working, I get the message confirming disc size has changed as well.

help the world my friend. I haven't seen any post anywhere explaining burnermax compatibility issues when already having been successful. Like the one I posted above. People need a clear understanding of how to diagnose hardware or software issues and this thread is supposed to be for them to ask people who have tried succeeded and failed so that way they can "find their way" sort of speak. For instance I use this site and many others and have for a long time, but noone has the ability to get general help without facing a firing squad.

I do not Pirate anything and stand by all copyright laws. I own every game to which I have burned and have yet to have an issue until I bought newer games COD AW and GTA V this isn't a piracy issue this has to do with compatibility. To let you know I can confirm model dh-16aas does work with earlier games however I cannot get newer ones to burn. I wanted to help people like me who have these same issues.

I actually got rise of the guardians to run fine i was just dumb. however i am running into issues ripping my games now... unrelated most likely

I am pretty sure its a good idea to run it anyway... I have a sony optiarc and still run the tool just to check maybe im just that noobish tho also make sure drive is 3.0

There are 2 drives that work Geniune ihas rev-b not (b) for black color or Sony optiarc AD plus
The sony drive is plug and play no flash needed and always available for 2 years
Sometimes bad burns just happen on XDG3 Make sure you run the correct media Verbatum 2.4 write speed Run verified in Image Burn
If your backed up game that you own downloads to your Xbox hard drive!!! your good to go

I now have a Sony optiarc 5280 and I can't rip my games anymore before I just flashed my firmware and did it using a drive I bought online, but now that one is broke and I can't copy anymore. do you know anything on how to fix this?

Image burn will warn you there is not enough space on the disk if overburn is a issue

yes. Just google it. Probably not many compatible drives available now. Best bet is to get the sony optiarc 5280s-cb plus, which burns xgd3 games straight out of the box without any need of burnermax firmwares.
