Burning DVDs

Well I really had no clue where to post this but here it goes. When I go to burn a backup of an XBox game it works just fine. My xbox reads it and everything.(DVD+Rs) When I go to burn a movie however my XBox Can read it but my DVD player can not.(DVD+Rs) So I thought I would try a DVD-R and see if that would work. Well it turns out that it does not work on ether my XBox or my DVD player. Is there any guides on how to burn DVD movies so that they would work on DVD players cause I have tried countless ways to get it to read on my DVD player. The DVD player is fairly old about 6 or 7 years but if thats may be the reason let me know. Thanks for any help.

XBOX drives are very fussy about which brands of DVD you use. So that's why it wouldn't read the DVD-R.

What are you burning them with and how are you doing it? Also are they copies of dvd movies? Nero6 has dvd movie settings.

Some dvd movies have something called autorun/pc friendly, this setting can make the dvd work or not in pc's and dvd players, crouching tiger, hidden dragon has this.

It could be that the dvd-r doesn't work in your xbox because it's not a compatible dvd and your dvd player might not read it because it's old. Does your pc play it?

Either my couch or my chair.
some dvd players even today dont play burned formats. if your dvd player doesnt play it, go buy a cheaper player. the crappy $35 ones usually play everything you throw at them.

Xbox drives can read all media, exept thomson wont read cd-r at all. It's just you have to find out which exact discs it reads. My thomson will read tdk dvd+r, but won't read tdk cd-rw. So even brand names aren't good enough to judge it by, they have to be specific discs.

hey, just make sure u burn it right, use sonic or alcohol120% to burn..
if u burn it right any brand will work just fine

i have 2 xboxes and have had all 3 dvd drives and they ALL read every brand i have thrown at it (70+ burned games on many different brands of dvd+r)

sonic is what i recommend you burn with, and dvd's, all should work, but the majority of mine are Imation DVD+R =)

Well I mean movies on a DVD player. What can do about that? I want to be able to burn them and play them on a normal DVD player. Any help?
What types of movies are these and how are you burning these movies ? You may be doing something wrong. The steps I take to backup a movie are:

1) Put original movie in the DVD drive
2) Use DVD Shrink to decode and compress the files to my hard drive
3) Open Nero and create a new "Video DVD"
4) Drag all of the files created by DVD Shrink (*.VOB, *.IFO, *.BUP) to the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD
5) Burn the DVD

What steps do you take to burn a movie ?

I Havent Burn Any Movies Yet (dvd To Xbox Hdd) But I've Made Backups Using Dvd X-copy Those Work Fine Both On My Box And Dvd Player But I'm Trying To Burn The Movies From Dvd Straight To The Hdd Like You Do With Games So That I Can Just Load Them Without Having To Use The Disk. So Do I Just Follow The Steps You Gave Me? Or Is That To Make Backups Of The Disk?

If you are copying the files off of a store bought movies, then you have to decrypt them before copying them to the hard drive. You can't just copy them to your hard drive and expect them to play. The decryption key is stored in the lead-in section of the DVD disc. Do this:

1) Put the original movie into your PC
2) Use DVD Shrink to decrypt them and, if necessary, to compress them as well
3) Copy the decrypted files to your Xbox hard drive

That should allow you to play them off of the hard drive instead of disc.
