buying an xbox

im going to buy an xbox to try do this mod rather than do it on the kids slim box
i have had a look and im sure this question has been answered several times before but i cant see it

does it make much differance to what xbox i get? fat, slim elite pro?

i get theres several ways to do the mod but what kind of price am i looking at once ive bought an xbox for any extra hardware i may need?

You just want to flash your DVD drive with CFW then. Older phat xbox's are very simple and easy.. Newer slims require extra hardware and so cost more. Good place to start, Download JungleFlasher and in the documents folder, there is the Tutorial. have a read through that about 10 times. then read it again.

If you get a phat console, which will be cheaper, if you flash the drive also, as no LTU board is needed, you will want to find a Jasper Revison motherboard(Least likely to get the red ring of death).Any will work except the xenon, but the jasper is the most reliable of the phat consoles. I would Suggest getting The R-Jtag Ultimate Kit(includes Jr-Programmer v2 and QSBs), a demon(Dual Nand device, and nand reader/writer. Makes upgrades and failed nand flashes easier to recover, and lets u keep the retail side of the console intact(Meaning you can hit a button and use as a normal xbox, and hit a button again and run all of your homebrew), That covers the homebrew part, as for CFW on the dvd Drive, you will need a X360USBPro and a CK3(Any revision will work, if u can find a X360USBPro V2 then the ck3 isnt needed) and a CK3 Probe V3.

If you get a slim console, and want dual nand stay away from 4GB caronaV2/V4/V6 consoles. I would suggest getting A slim Proto v2, a Slim Demon. If you want to be able to play burned discs then you will also need to get the X360USBpro and CK3(Or X360USBpro V2), and would recomend a LTU2 board, For the drive type in the console. If you have a 16d4s, depending on the chipset on the board, you could either Kamikazi it, or use the sputnik probe, but the LTU2 board is the best option for this.

And It only took me 10 minutes to type all that out. Feel Free to make a guide out of it, Just make sure to give credit to the authors of all the guides listed, and to me of coarse for my time. Honestly I was trying to answer the question and went overboard a little, but since the op was saying that they didnt know which console to get, I figured I would make all of the information easy to find and give my personal/professional opinion. I did leave out quite a few flashing guides, but since most Phat Xboxes that have come across my work bench have had Liteon drives, and the jungle flasher PDF covers all the drives, soi would put the link for that drive only.

get ya a phat jasper model.they are by far the best,and the drives not tooooo bad to flash,just need usbpro and ck3i and probe 3.

That falls under RGH/Jtag/R-Jtag teritory. And if you do that you can put upto a 2 tb hdd in the console, and still use an external USB hdd.

I got the impression that the op wants to learn how to install the mods their self, not that they want to buy a pre-modded console.

Op should understand the risk of taking a jtag/rgh xbox online.. as he seems to want to be able to do that, and i take it he probably wants to try to take his "backed up" games online... Its a good way to get M$ to delete your XBL account and ban your xbox... just a heads up..

In my first post, I told the op to read about 7 different guides, one of which was the demon install guides, and i also said this was the best option for live use with rgh.
