A glass of Laphroig it is! Many thanks to all that took the time to help. Update on usb to console 13599 along with flashing to post worked. I will leave the drive as stock as I do not use backup disks at the moment but now I know a tad more about the Xbox I will perhaps re-flash in the future as my boy, like most youngsters scratches disks like there is no tomorrow!!

I wouldnt know how to make a backup disk so I will leave that for another day!

Many thanks to you all!!

OP, you were on the right track moreso than any of the suggestions that followed.

The first 2 parts of the error code tell you the previous and new dash versions respectively (in hex). So, you were going from 12625 to 13599 when the update failed and it's therefore obvious why it failed.

Since you have a pre 0251c dash, you need to flash your drive with 7485 stock firmware and then apply the 13599 dash update from USB stick.
That's providing the 74850c is the original drive. It may not be!
tingedace, can you please justexplain to me how the error code transposes via hex to the 2 dashboards?

First batch of error code 3151 once entered in hex on scientific calculator then Dec is pressed reveals 12625, next error code 351f same process reveals 13599.
