Can a dead dvd drive be accessed via pc

If a xbox 360 has a non-responding 'dead' dvd drive that doesnt open/close but the light flashes when you press eject can you still access it to get the key off it so it can be replaced by a new one?

Want to buy a cheap faulty one and fix it.
