Can anyone answer these questions...

I have a 2.6 xecutor, Xapt3r solderless adapter and a 1.5 box...I am experiecning the following issue and I do not know how to proceed. With everything installed (minus the DVD and HDD) the machine still boots to the MS-Dash. I have triple checked the D0, and receive the blue leds from the Xapt3r and a flash from the red led to indicate a D0 connection. When I place the 2.6 on top I get more blue leds (2 to be exact), but no steady red on the Xapt3r. I have done everything I can to the connection (risers, cleaned the d0, everything). So need further troubleshooting steps...

1) What do the blue leds on the 2.6 signify?
2) Why would I get a momentary flash on the red led (Xapt3r) but not a steady when the chip is installed? (Does that point to the chip or the Xapt3r)
3) I used a table to diagnose the version of my xbox on xboxscene. Could I have misdiagnosed? I know xapt3r does not work on 1.6. Are my symptoms similar?
4) Is there any way to test the chip?
5) Is there any chance I can get a replacement chip from MCM...

Any answers would be appreciated...

i think the xapt3r is only for the X3 not the X2. if i was you I would just double check this as I may be wrong.

No, the Xapt3r works with BOTH the 2.6 and the X3 !!

Did you clean the laquer off the d0 point before trying to attach it?

Do you have access to and/or any soldering skills ?

I had a quick look for some fitting info but havnt found any yet. Although I dont think the red d0 LED stays on all the time? .. but I'm not sure.

"1) What do the blue leds on the 2.6 signify?"

They are voltage checkers - 1 is for the 3.3v and one is for the 5v.

"2) Why would I get a momentary flash on the red led (Xapt3r) but not a steady when the chip is installed? (Does that point to the chip or the Xapt3r)"

It's more likely the d0 isn't making good contact or you have the wrong d0. (as already suggested)

"3) I used a table to diagnose the version of my xbox on xboxscene. Could I have misdiagnosed? I know xapt3r does not work on 1.6. Are my symptoms similar?"

If you had a 1.6, you'd know it. The layout is totally different.

"4) Is there any way to test the chip?"

Yes - you need to solder it in tho.

"5) Is there any chance I can get a replacement chip from MCM..."

I can assure you that it's a fitting problem.

Martin, do you know of any Xapt3r fitting guide?

I have soldered mine in a long time ago but for refference, this would be good.

There really isn't much to know about fitting it.

1. Screw 1st half of Xapt3r screw into motherboard.
2. Clean up LPC and insert rivets if needed. You only put rivets in the holes which are used by the Xapt3r.
3. Put Xapt3r onto pinheader, aligning the pogos with the LPC.
4. Screw into place with 2nd half of Xapt3r screw.
5. Put D0 wire carefully into D0 hole.

That's all there is to it really.

Thanks ... I was just wondering what the correct LED status should have been as per TEaPaZ's Q regarding the red d0 LED and the other BLue ones.

Thanks for the suggestions. I remain a little confused:

"2) Why would I get a momentary flash on the red led (Xapt3r) but not a steady when the chip is installed? (Does that point to the chip or the Xapt3r)"

It's more likely the d0 isn't making good contact or you have the wrong d0. (as already suggested)

Doesn't the red led flash by the Xapt3r when in contact with the board indicate a connection? If it doesn't what does it indicate?

You also mentioned cleaning the LPC and using rivets...If I have the 3 Blue leds on the Xapt3r doesn't that mean it is connected correcttly????

I cleaning the laquer of the d0 a valid suggestion? I have read on many posts that if you have the red led flash on power up it is installed correctly!

I have already fried one xbox with my soldering skills, and appear headed that way again...

More help if you can spare it please....Oh here is my d0 connection. I am sure it is good (as I have read every post and reinstalled over 30 times)

Well, seeing as it still doesnt work, I would suggest that the d0 still isnt arming the chip properly - unless someone else can shed some light on it??

Look at the picture below - I think you still need to scrape some of the laquer off the d0 point. When you install the xapt3r d0 wire it should (I think click into position.

You could also try putting a small blob of solder on the end of the d0 wire. Then fit it to the board and heat the end just enough to get the d0 to stick to the mobo.

If you're in the UK, I'd offer to solder it properly for you as even when it IS in, the solderless option is never 100% foolproof against jolts and/or moving the xbox.

Having said that if someone who installed a xapt3r , it would be useful.
