LITEON 0225 Can I hardware swap a lite-on 0225?

I have a brand new slim with a lite-on 0225 a friend bought that has already voided the warranty. His gf knocked over the xbox and the drive started grinding. I was just wondering is it possible to buy a replacement drive and just throw the pcb in the new drive or would I have to pull the key off and buy an unlocked pcb to write to?

If you put the pcb from the broken drive in the new drive it will work without any flashing.
