Best bet would be to convert them to nsp if you want to run them that way.

@Qubs he is asking if there is a way to install xci files. There is no way that I know of to install an xci internal or external. He would need to convert them to nsp and then install them if he wants to "install" the games.

Also, I'd have to double check the latest update, but I do not believe you can run xci from an external drive as of yet.

You can im doing that
(You can mount them from extHDD to make it seem as tho its a gamecart)

That's not really what he's asking. Mounting the game via SX is not the same as installing.

Installing would mean you can launch any of your installed games form the home screen without the SX menu.

As to the answer, you cannot install nsps to hdd. The home screen wouldn't show them as it doesn't recognise exhdd as a source. You can however use nsc builder to repack the nsp to an XCI at its smallest possible size which is about the size of an installed nsp.

No you cant “just launch them”
You still need to boot cfw For sigpatches to allow it
And if you boot cfw anyways i dont really see what the problem with launching SX Album would be as its rather fast
Also “just install the nsp” isnt the answer he was looking for either.
He was asking if it was possible to install nsps to extHDD: no you cant
However if you’re running low on mSD space but still want to play new games without deleting installed games your only way is converting to xci and mount/launch them from extHDD

Well until the OP responds and clarifies what he's actually asking there is no point in arguing about it.

Long story short, the default way to use XCI files does not "install" them internal or external. It adds waht is essetially a shortcut to the home screen and then you need to go to the SX menu to mount it before playing every time. As of 2.5.1Beta you can actually install them and run them like NSP files. I am not sure about installing them and running them from an external though.
