The metal is used a ground/sheild it can be removed on the top but I would not remove the bottom as this makes alot of ground connections to the MotherBoard

If you have some really strong scissors: you could cut along the edges of the base part of the shielding/ground metal so that you keep the base for the ground connections but the sides are cut off to show your lighting.

But be careful where you put your xbox after that... that sheild helps prevent ESD from messing with your xbox. I think it's called a faraday shield... You might get a fuzzy picture or other problems if you put it too close to your TV or floresent lights or something.

i heard that you dont need the metal shielding at all, it is just for radio interfearence or how ever you spell it. i myself have never tried it, but i have seen super slim xboxs, that have the psu's hanging upsidedown, and no metal shielding to groudn that, nor the mobo, i will look farther into this and get back to you, but if you really want your lighting to show, and dot wanna take the chance, just take some metal clippers and cut off the sides ;)

Yeah a faraday shield blocks electrical interference... but it won't kill your xbox, you just have to be a little more carefull about where you put it and static electricity. Just make sure your rubber feet go back on the thing! :D

yup, dont need any of the shielding, that why you can take all the iners out of your case and lay them on the table and still play (not very safe, but hey if you wanna play halo) but yeah, if you get lil waves on the screen when you turn your box on though, you gotta put the shielding back
