hi i'm a newbie to the xbox world, and have aqired a box with a screwed dvd drive. i have got so far as getting a xecuter 2 working with x2 bios (latest version) using cromwell flashbios and a generic pc dvd drive to load bios from. however, i cannot find a way to boot my evox from my cdr (yes, i have burnt it correctly and renamed the xbe to default.xbe.) does only cromwell support non xbox dvd drives or am i doing something wrong? i dont want to wait the 2 weeks delivery of my new xbox drive!

the cdr was written the exact same way the bios cd was, with old compatibility modes etc, and the drive loves to read the cdrs

thanks for your help!!

Does the Xbox boot fine (Xecuter2 logo, ms dash) with the other DVD Drive connected?

I think there's a tutorial on Xbox-Scene on how to boot using a PC DVD-ROM drive whilst keeping the original in place.

it does boot fine to ms dash, but complains about the disk not being a game etc. i havent tried a dvd movie in it. maybe cromwells linux core(im assuming) is just better at working with other drives - it even came up with '16x dvd drive detected'. If i remember i think i get a xecuter error message if i unplug my dvd drive, so it is seeing something
