can it be fixed?

my dvd-drive stopped working few days ago, dosent read any cd or dvd just goes closed and opened, nothing else happens. drive is 0078. today i bought a new one and after i changed the drivekey and before i started flashing message comes that says ERROR and Ok button, after that computer freezes and nothing happens i waited for 5mins but nouse, after that i restarted both comp and box, after that the new dvd drive dosent do anything no response at all, drive is 0047.
question goes can it be fixed? or do i have to buy new drive or box... both drives were Hitachi

Yes, it can be fixed but by the sounds of it, the tsop will have to be desoldered and reprogrammed. The checksum on the drive is probably messed up and it wont function properly (no response) without the correct one for the change firmware.
