Hey there!
I thought I'd post this as an aid to anyone who is having the problem I saw. After putting in my X3 mod and verifing that the FlashBios screen came up, I then used the HTTP selection to upload my X3 bios. After the Xbox sync'd up and the upload started the yellow bar started to advance but after it got half way the Xbox would shut down. Afterwards I would have to boot back up in BackUp mode to get back to the FlashBios screen.
I made sure I was uploading the plus16 version of the bios (as my Xbox is a 1.6) so after a couple more attempts with the same result I tried to upload the FlashBios bios instead - and the Xbox accepted FlashBios just fine.
So.. I figured if the Xbox will load FlashBios ok and not the X3 bios it must be that since the X3 bios is larger that the unit is bombing because of a memory addressing problem, hence it cannot access the next memory block so it bombs.
I work as a electronic technician for a scientific company, I took my Xbox mother board in to work on a saturday (nobody around) and placed it under our high powered microscope. I examined my X3 mod soldering and sure enough on pin 14 was a micro ring around pin14. When I did a continuity test from the edge of the pad to the tip of the pin there was no continuity.
So (and as many have said before) I resoldered pin14 put the Xbox back together and tried the upload again and this time SUCCESS!
So if you ever run into anyone who says they can load FlashBios but not X3 bios, or that they're upload bombs in the middle of the yellow progress bar please pass this on!
