i have the X3 installed in my 1.6 xbox, with stock harddrive, running X3 1959 bios and everything is working. i have avalaunch copied over to C: drive (temporarily) and also have a evolutionX 3935 boot disc & slayer 2.6 available.
all i want to do is set up my F: drive to hold my apps and dashboards.
i searched/read all i could find here in the forums.
using this thread (X3 FAQ), i followed these steps...
x3 config live > customize x3 bios > LBA 48 Mode = F gets all, no G > Standard Partitions OR F Drive gets everything
and after that, still no listing of F on the top of the X3 bios screen, just C & E.

ok, so maybe this partition has to be formatted?
in X3 Config Live i went to Disk Tools > Current HD setup > ...
there is no option to Format F: - only C: and E: - there is an option to format all drives/partitions, but i didn't want to do that becuase i'm not sure that would get me anywhere past where i am now, since it only sees C and E

read that you can try in evox and avalaunch, but no luck so far. when starting avalaunch is says 0MB free on F and in file manager it just says Err 3. in evox, it show F, but 0 size

if i FTP to the box via X3, no F drive shows.
if i FTP via evox, i see the F drive, but can't do anything to it (copy files/add folders).
i'm guessing i have to format this partition, but haven't found out how yet.
does it have anything to do with locking/unlocking? not sure i understand that concept fully.
WTF am i missing here?
thanks for any help....

From the evox docs
==============================================
FTP to your Xbox (use EvolutionX to get your IP if you don't know it).
Format only partition 6. Use the following command: "FORMATPATH \Device\Harddisk0\Partition6"
You will receive a key. Use this key to type: "FORMATDRIVE <key>" (where <key> is the key you received)
===============================================

FORMATPATH \Device\Harddisk0\Partition6 and the other command are RAW commands. Look under commands in FlashFXP.

F$KING A people..... why spennd the $$$ on a x3 not to use its power....

you can format from x3config live bios..... u say f gets all then u format... its something like......upgrade hd or something like that......i cant remember and i'm not in front of it.....but ya.....you will loose the current dash.... but you will get all the drives back... and then u can ftp stuff

ahhh found it... under disk tool... you want to "Prepare And Format New Drive" that should do the trick for ya...

thank you both for the replies. i was hoping to just format F: - sounds like i can do this via FTP. need to read more up on that.

i would love to use X3, you're right. i paid for it, i'd like to use it.
but like i said in my original post. i don't have the option "Format F:"
if i were to use the "Prepare And Format New Drive" under disk tools, that would wipe everything out. so i would then have to use slayer's install to rebuild or copy files back over via ftp. is that what you are saying to do?

i can't imagine that if after you install a new chip and want to start using the F: drive, the first thing everyone does is completely wipe out their hard drive and the rebuild it? seems a little overkill, doesn't it?

just read some more about issueing raw FTP commands, i use CuteFTP and it has that capability. may try that after i read somemore. seems worlds easier than redoing the whole drive. if i missed the point about Prepare/Format New Drive please let me know i'd like to learn as much as possible about the X3 capabilities. and without a solid user guide, it's all hunt for knowledge.
thanks again for you replies!!

tried the FTP raw command. and although the commands executed what appeared to be successful, gave all the proper replies. when i rebooted the xbox, F: was still at 0

found this quote in slayers manual...
"This install will user the E: drive for the APPS because F: is not available on all retail drives"

i'm starting to wonder if I have an F: drive! i see it in the FTP connection, but there is not access to it. even after issuing the format commands. it does not show up on the X3 screen. and in avalaunch it is 0mb.
this doesn't sound right, becuase it is an 8GB drive and E: is allocated around 5GB and C is only about a half gig. so there is roughly 3 GB out there to be claimed. there must be a way to get this working...

i'm hesitant to use X3's prepare/format new drive. their FTP is definitely has bugs in it (have experienced them first hand) and leary of trashing this new box (sorry to say).

if i was to go that route of using X3's prepare/format new drive, would these be the steps? anything else?
- run prepare/format new drive
- copy data back over via FTP or run slayers retail rebuild

there has to be a way to get this F: formatted....

hello.
i went ahead and used the X3 disk tool. they are nice. just had a bad experience with FTP, so was a little leary of them. anyway, i ran...
disk tools > new HD upgrade
set LBA48 to "all F no G"
then ran prepare/format drive

ran correctly, but only formatted partitions 1 thru 5
partition 6 is the F drive and it was not formatted
so nothing new happened.

even tried disk tools > current HD setup
ran format all drives/partitions
prompted me for each drive, but only prompted for C & E, then was done
so nothing new again

checked out the hardware>Hard Drive info>Partition Table Info
listed the following....
Code:
Total Hard Drive Size : 7.45 GB
[Part 1 = E:] Blocks ...... , 4.77 GB
[Part 2 = C:] Blocks ...... , 0.49 GB
[Part 3 = X:] Blocks ...... , 0.73 GB
[Part 4 = Y:] Blocks ...... , 0.73 GB
[Part 5 = Z:] Blocks ...... , 0.73 GB
[Part 6 = F:] -- NOT USED --
[Part 7 = F:] -- NOT USED --
so if you add up all the sizes from this partition table they equal 7.45 GB
so i guess i can't have an F: drive as there isn't any space to allocte to F:
Please correct me if i'm wrong, i really would have liked to have an F: drive!
I have another new 40GB WD harddrive, but i don't really want to install it becuse of all the banning that is going on with xbox live. would have rather have had a little couple gig f drive to put some of the great apps on there and thats it...

omg.....if you have a stock wd drive then NO your not gonna be able to have an F: partition like you figured out.....if you would have actually READ you might have realized that....so yes you need to upgrade the hdd if youd like to use an F: partition

back up all the contents on your stock hdd through ftp to your comp....unlock the hdd in x3cl.....take the bitch out store it somewhere.....put the 40 gig in your xbox go back into x3cl and prepare the new hdd make sure F gets all and format all the partitions....ftp all the stuff u backed up on your comp back over to the new hdd

have fun and actually READ next time

wait just read bout your xbl comment....if you already setup your xbl account then yea your not gonna be able to do anything.....there is some room on E: just for apps and all if thats all you wanted E: is like 5 gigs but over time your not gonna be able to have anymore game saves once u use up the space

sorry i missed the part about .... stock drive in the orginal post ....for gosh darn sake....you need to read up first...before asking questions....

and if u lost stuff ... it takes about 3 secs to ftp a dash back on....

this post should be closed because of frustration....

don't make things difficult.....just buy new drive if you dont have one and then format all

take u 10 mins total....

why would i need to unlock the current drive that is in there before i take it out? is that only so i could use the drive in my PC if i wanted to? i have no intention of doing that, i'd just holding on to it incase i'd ever had the need to put it back in the xbox. so given that, i'd assume i'd want to leave it locked. please correct me if i'm wrong.
thanks
