I am modding a 1.6 box with an executer 2.6ce. I have gotten the chip in with all the extra crap you have to do. I havent turned it on yet because I am stuck trying to figure out what to do about the bios and I am also a little nervous about what its going to do.. I have the new x2_5035 bios downloaded. I will also be putting in a 250gb hard drive when I get this sorted out with the bios. I am confused about how to get this bios on to my chip and whether it needs to be configured to accept a 250gb hard before flashing or not. I also dont understand where to put the ini file for the bios or if there is anything extra I have to do to get the extra partition to work. Do I flash bank one or two? If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it. :)

Hey man,
***Make sure you use the 1.6 version bios***
(You may as well put the large hard drive in now...)
First you'll need to turn on your box and see if the install went correctly, with the chip enabled (green LED) you should have a blue screen called Flashbios 3.0.1, or maybe 3.0.3 I forget...
If you have a blue screen all went well! Good Job!

Next, you need to make your Bios compatible with the larger hard drive... download "X2ool" from http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=bios... click on Open Rom at the bottom right of the window, next to that is a drop down option for LBA48 settings... I recommend "F drive takes all"... then save rom as something that you can remember it is the LBA48 one...

Next, get a copy of flasbbios 3.0.3 from the usual places, 3.0.1 if you can (I've heard 3.0.3 has issues with 1.6 boxes...

Get a copy of x2BM (xecuter 2 bios manager)... to the right click on the top bank... to the left "open"... find your file (the LBA48 one)...this should take up the first two banks to the right... select the third one down... to the left "open"... find your flashbios file (do this for both of the last banks)... now all your banks should be filled, the first two with 5035 LBA48, and the last with flashbios...

If you have an crossover ethernet cable you can do a network flash (this is the easiest)... all you gotta do is plug the cord into your pc and box, on the box select network flash, wait a minute for it to default... it will give you an IP, like 192.168.0.99 (maybe something else), open internet explorer and type the IP address in the address bar, no http:\\ needed...follow the instructions (find your file, press go)... easy stuff

If you haven't a cord, get one you'll need it in the future...
(if you really really want to flash from disc there are tutorials out there, but I'm not gonna get into that here)
Lastly, let me know how it goes! Good Luck!

X2CL 5035 is set for "F gets all" by default. So when you drop the large HDD in there and partition you will have everything beyond 8GB (approx) as your F drive. You don't need to alter the LBA48 setting to do what you want.

I would not recommend downloading Xtool at this time, it could cause you headaches down the road if you start using it. The current version of Xtool only supports X2CL 5032, it has not yet been updated for 5035. (it does tho do the LBA48 settings fine, that hasn't changed.) X2 Config Maker (X2CM) which is linked on the same page as Xtool or available directly from http://www.x-projects.org properly supports 5035.

Since X2CL is a 512KB BIOS there is no need to make a new "BIOS pack" with X2BM. You can flash this file as is, FlashBIOS will start writing at bank 1 (it always does, regardless of bank selection) and will only overwrite bank 1 since the file is not large enough to extend into bank 2. Check that you can use FlashBIOS that is on bank 2 (should be 3.0.3) first. There are some compatibility issues with the versions of FlashBIOS and different 1.6 series xboxes, which is why both versions are included on the chip. If the FlashBIOS on bank 2 does not work for you, you should then use X2BM to create a 1MB BIOS pack that includes the 5035 BIOS on the first half and FlashBIOS 3.0.1 on the second. Follow Beams' directions for this if necessary.

As Beams stated I would also recommend the HTTP flashing. If you already have a home network setup with a router (likely if you happen to have multiple computers sharing one cable/DSL connection) and the router hands out DHCP addresses you can cable the xbox right to your network with a normal network cable. As an alternate for a crossover cable you can use two regular cables and link to your PC via a switch/hub if you have one available. If you have none of that you will either need a crossover cable or start hoping you can burn a readable BIOS load disc.

There is a decent HD upgrade sticky here somewhere, I think it's in the HW mod forums. It is a little outdated I think but still quite helpful. Also, you will probably want to keep your initial HD in the Xbox when you first start. Reason is once you can load a boot disc with some sort of FTP server on it (pretty much any dashboard has it) you can then backup settings on your stock HDD. This would include the MS dashboard stuff on drive C but possibly more important to many is the save games that will be on drive E. Copy it to your local PC, once you've done the partitioning with the new HDD drop the files back on there in the proper drives.

The ini file should go to either the root of your E or F drive. I belive this is in the BIOS readme or nfo somewhere.

If you come to any step and aren't sure what you need to do, stop back here first. Tis better to have to ask a question then to goof your Xbox.

I stand corrected... ( I'm not too into defaults, just knew that my way worked for me.)

Yeah, leave the original HD in if you want the dashboard and gamesaves\music
backup all c drive this is the ms xbox dashboard
backup the TDATA and UDATA from the e drive... these are your gamesaves and previously installed music... the music is in one of them (I forget which) under FFFe00000, or close to that, if you want just the music, but for gamesaves and settings stuff, copy both TDATA and UDATA

I've learned much by being corrected myself. :D It's all good.

I just happened to have the LBA48.txt file kicking around on the computer I was posting from so I was able to quickly confirm what the default was. Here's a little more info as this may come up in later searches for assistance-

These are the LBA48 modes and were copied directly from LBA48.txt-
0 = standard partitions
1 = F: gets all (Default)
2 = F: up to 137gb, G: gets rest
3 = F: up to 137gb, no G:

Now I'll get to guessing... maybe I'll be corrected this time and get some additional education.
0- I suspect if the BIOS is set to this it will only create the same partitions you have on a stock Xbox HDD. No F, no G, regardless of how large the HDD is. To me "standard partitions" sounds like it means "same as stock."
1- As discussed, this is standard partitions plus an F drive, where F gets everything that is available beyond the standard partitions. I am not aware of the real limit on this, but the theoretical cap is roughly 2.2TB. (Yes, that's terabytes.)
2 and 3- so if 0 gets you a "stock" config and 1 gets everything extra as an F partition, what is the point of F to 137 and G gets rest or F to 137 and no G? I believe that these are for compatibility with partitioning done at the time of older BIOSes. Ex., if you installed a 120GB HDD in an Xbox with an X2 4xxx.06 (creates F partition, #6) BIOS you would probably need to use mode 3 in order to properly see the partition. If you used 4xxx.67 (creates F partition #6 and G partition #7) you would want to use mode 2. Fuzzy on if this is truly the case, corrections welcome.

The original Xbox BIOS and the early modded BIOSes were based on LBA28 technology. This was the reason for a 137GB cap... the BIOS couldn't address anything beyond that mark as it had run out of address space. Patching the BIOS with LBA48 logic broke this barrier. For a technical thread that may only be of interest to the "how does this really work"/uber-geek crowd, check here- http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=65206 This looks to be started by the guy that actually got this going for the non-Linux modded BIOS scene.

I would try booting to a disk with some ftp server, any dashboard will do, I'd also make sure to edit the network settings in the config file before you make the cd...

then replace the "media center" application you have with a new copy...

I don't know your problem, but this might fix it if it has anything to do with corruption of your dashboard, or configuration of it...I guess

what chip you got in the box? if it's an x3 just use the config live ftp...

Its also good to note that flash bios requires a microsoft brand controller, 3rd party contollers will NOT work.
