hi i am noob to this type of stuff although i am about to start a degree in computer systems and networks, my question, can you replace a BENQ drive with a samsung? If so how would i go about it? i am aware that i will need to obtain the key from the original drive and put that onto the new drive to enable the xbox to play games but i am unsure whether i can change from different drives. any help would be greatly appreciated...

it can be done and is known as spoofing but is unsafe for live play so not recopmmended. it can also cause failed updates to the xbox from being spoofed.

Why would you want to replace with a samsung?
As stated it is not recommended or supported on new CFW. so it is not live safe. And benq's new don't cost that much, better safe than sorry.

you will also probably have issues playing games with ap2.5 , they might not even play , even originals
not only that - BenQs are a doddle to flash......the easiest by a long shot lol......flog on the sammy and get urself a BenQ mate...spoofing is no longer supported unfortunately
Thanks for the quick replies, the reason i have a samsung drive was i wasn't aware that you had to have the same drive make to replace it at the time, i assumed it would be like replacing a PC dvd drive, so there is no way around this then apart from spoofing and having all the trouble that comes with it?

as the guys said much easier to get a benq and it would not cost a lot and tbh as somebody who does repairs and has stacks of stripped down spare xboxes and drives id much prefer the benq over the samsung anyway.
