Can you set the HD up first on your PC?

I was wondering if you could prepare and set up a Hard drive to go in the xbox on the PC first?

Basically i have a 160GB slave drive on my pc which contains all my music and videos and a few pcapps, i want to install this drive in the xbox but have no room anywhere to temporaly store my music/videos/pcapps while i format the drive in xconfiglive.

I have them networked and figured the drive would be more use in the xbox to store games and i could still access the music from my pc if i wanted to.

the slave drive is in three partitions at the moment and i have enough room to merge the partitons into two without losing data or having an over spill.
As i have just under 70GB of music and would like to keep it in the same partition.

I know it must have been asked before but the search function seems a bit vague.
i have full ftp access.

Kind Regards
Dave

xboxhdm

but you need a copy of your eeprom.
which eerom is it you need to copy etc, is it the one that you can save in x3 bios? What info is it saving/using?

Could you give a bit more info on the procedure, nothing too detailed just a pointer.

;-)

xboxhdm is a program that only runs in Linux. Unless you're running Linux as your PC's OS, there is no way to setup your xbox HDD before installing it.

Hope that clears things up....

a lot of you seems confused heres how it works.

you download xboxhdm from the usual places.

yes it is indeed a linux app, but you dont need linux, i will explain it in a minute.

place all of your hd files (C and E and optionally F) in the xboxhdm folder, and use an included bat file to create a special xboxhdm iso from the files in the folder. (this can all be done in windows)

burn the iso using nero. this iso has xboxhdm and your hard drive files included in it.

make sure that your pc bios boots off the cd before the hard drive.

turn off your pc, disconnect your pc hard drives and hook up the one you want to use in your xbox.

boot your pc with the cd in the drive.

it will boot directly into xboxhdm off the cd. it is essentially a mini linux with an interface, you can set up the xbox hard drive using this program.

the program will automatically partition your hard drive for the xbox, and put all of your files that you placed on the cd on the necessary partitions, already setting it up for use with xbox.

if you want to be able to use the hard drive with the modchip off, then you need to lock the hard drive, to do this you need to obtain a copy of your eeprom, through either x3 config live or configmagic or evox or any other xbox app for that matter. include it in the xboxhdm folder before you create the iso and there is an option to lock it within xboxhdm. btw the hard drive needs to be lockable to use it without the chip. locking it is not a requirement when running a modchip.

plug the hard drive into the xbox and thats it!

so yes it is linux, but doesnt require any linux distribution installed because its a standalone program that is just run from the cd!!!!!
i think you can burn it to a dvd if there is a lot of files that you want that wont fit on a cd. :)

If you have an x3 chip that would be a waste of time. as it already will partition and ftp. Why do it the long way. Nerd Points?

Alot of nice info and thanks for the replies, however what i already have alot of files on the drive that i wanted to put in and just wanted to create the correct partions without formating the drive.

theres at least 70 of music on there that i have no temporary place to keep.

I'll just have to go buy a drive and go hungry

you can repartition drives with the files on, you have to use a proggy like partition magic or similar, but i think you can only move the free space around...but i have enough left over to build the extra partitions.

Ixtreme LT flash?????

hi,
i just flashed my lite on drive with ixtreme lt but now it says "play dvd" but before it used to let me play the games even the old ones. What i did was extract the keys, dummy, identify etc from the drive which was ixtreme 1.6 liteon and then did the usual rest. Any idea what i have done wrong i aint updated "system updates" nor flash back to stock before trying it.

Thankyou in advance

Re: Ixtreme LT flash?????

The only thing that could happened is that you don´t get the key information over to the drive.Open your old dummy and spoof that key into LT and flash it again.
