Hiya -- First, please and thanks for any for help or advice!

i've been playing with a first week release of the Slim (Liteon 9504-16D4S) which was flashed as soon as possible.

Last month the new Halo Anniversary came out, but the dashboard needed to be upgraded in order to play it. All forum posts led me to believe all i needed to do was flash back to my original firmware, get on Xbox Live and let it download and install the latest update, then re-flash to the latest 2.0 version software.

First i wanted to see if just flashing would do the trick. So i flashed to 2.0 successfully, but the game still wouldn't load. So, i re-flashed back the original FW and then got online with it, yadda yadda.... now JungleFlasher tells me my FW is 0272 and i can no longer unlock the drive. <insert large scream here>

So, onto the problem... I've now received all the necessary things i need for installing the Sputnik switch and have followed the tutorials here to the letter on how to install it and solder it properly. (i used a fiberglass brush, flux, etc.)
I'm posting a picture just to clear up any question of my soldering skills. (I'm a beginner, but this wasn't too bad.)

So now, here's what i'm trying:

My PCB is using the 360s power connection from the motherboard, and my SATA goes through my VIA VT6421 card from my PC (Win7 x32). In JF 1.90, i go to the MTK Flash 32 tab and hit the Refresh Drive Properties button next to the I/O Port. The Drive Properties shows the drive just fine:
Vendor: PLDS, Name: DG-16D4S, F/W Rev: 0272, Reserved: A0A0, DVD Key: Verified. Flash Chip Properties is all empty of course.

Now i try every possible combination of things discussed in the forums to get it unlocked with no joy.

My Sputnik is set at 10 ohms and the switch is set to Normal. Under Flashing Tasks, i'm set to Slim, I click the Intro button, the status shows 0x51, i click YES, i take out the power molex and plug it back in smoothly and in less than 1 second. I continue to do this a bazillion times and nothing ever different happens. The Re-Sending Vendor Intro just continues to dot... I am never prompted to unlock and it never reaches vendor mode. I've also tried 15 and 20 ohm settings with no change.

Something i've noticed, may or may not be relevant. If during the Re-sending Vendor Intro procedure (the dots are moving across the screen), i flip the switch to Unlock, the Status immediately changes from 0x51 to 0xD1. Is this normal that flipping the switch makes the PCB un-readable? 0xD1 is the code when there is no power getting to the PCB, right?

A bit of obvious info from my Log:
Sending Password to Drive on port 0xC8A0
Sending Vendor Intro to port 0xC8A0
Status 0x51
Re-sending Vendor Intro:
....................................................

Just for fun, i've also tried to put the switch in Normal position, and clicked Slim Unlock. i get "Slim-Un-Lock command returned an Error". If i put the switch in the Unlock position before or after i click Slim UnLock, i get "No drive detected".

Please keep in mind i've used this PC, this OS, and this VIA card for flashing about a dozen 360s. Hardware-wise i'm fine on the computer side. I still have all my original keys for the drive from my original flashing.

So frustrated!
Please and thanks!!!

You have an old VIA chipset that doesn't not support SATA II. You have to use the SATA II/USB TRICK to unlock your drive without problem, personally tested ;)

You will need to get an USB pro I would think, i was unable to get into vendor mode until I got one.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have a solution that does not require me to drop another $50-$60 on a one-time use device?

Please and thanks!

I got my USB to Sata connector on Ebay for 5 bucks.

Plug the drive into the USB.Sata connector which you need to connect to a USB port either on a computer or something. Just as long as it is powered.

Power on the slim Drive and Eject it then close it.

Unplug the sata connector and reconnect your Sata cable that goes to your On Board/VIA card.

Click intro and it should pretty much intro itself after that. Worked like a charm for me.

He powers the drive and cable with the xbox 360. I do not recommend this.
