Have you had proper practice sodering before? Using flux? Using lead based solder? What diameter? What wattage iron?

$70 for piece of mind and not losing the jtag is fair. Consider it.

As for your botch job. Clean it with 90% ipa and try again.

If your thinking about the pin headers...you gotta be careful that solder can be a bitch sometimes! you'll need a solder sucker, you could end up destroying the pads

Did you prep the board contacts (pre solder) before you attempted to fit the QSB's
I added flux before and after i don't have anything to really clean with right now other than a Scratch Brush,

But like no matter how much i could add it all piles up on the pads on the QSB

You could alway buy another set of QSB there only cheap $6 in USA, you want to pre solder the motherboard contacts before you fit the QSBs then the solder should flow

Flux - pre solder - QSBs

i didn't see any pictures

IPA: Isopropyl Alcohol
Yea i know thats what i was told to do but im scared of burning the pads i guess il try that then
Thanks
And added links do the pads look toast?

I can't see the pictures of your qsb, but they aren't that expensive to replace. Most TX resellers have these individually.

Now regarding soldering, clean up whatever mess you have made on the board.

1. Add flux to the point on the board where the qsb sits.

2. Heat up one of the points that the qsb sits on with the soldering iron, after about 10-15 seconds add solder to the point (not to the iron tip). Keep going till you have a small mound of solder, rinse and repeat to all other points.

3. Now place your qsb on top, add some flux and then heat up the qsb AND solder points at the SAME time otherwise the solder will travel to the hottest part only. You should have enough solder to form a connection, but you can always add more.

Make sure you are plugging in your iron then waiting 10-15mins, long enough for it to heat up adequately before beginning to solder.

Thanks for that il try adding solder to the holes on a spare xbox board (did it on a pc board and it was fine) Thanks again

P.S. I am going to get a smaller diameter of solder will 0.8 or 0.6mm do it?:)

EDIT: i added links to imageshack can u see it now?

Looks good i reckon,

Place the QSB on top add more flux to everything and then heat up both the QSB and the Xbox mainboard at the same time.
