Hi

I would like to be able to load xci files from a 3 TB external (self-powered) but it does not work. It is scanning forever when I open the album.

I have tried it with 2 differents disks with the same result.
They are both 3 TB HDD WD My Books and they have their own power cable
They work perfectly fine on my computer and one of them is working with the Wii

My switch is on version 5.1 and I use the latest SX OS which is 2.5.1 at the moment.

I have try to format the disk in fat32 or exfat
I have try using setup the volume with GPT or MBR
I put only one xci file into hdd\sxos\xci folder
The xci file I used is working fine when using from SD card
I have try using a partition lower than 2 TB and same result

Can anyone help me to figure out what's going on, what do I do wrong, or how can I solve this problem ?
Is there a more detailed guide to make that work.
Does anyone have been able to make it work with these 3TB+ WD My book disk ?

Thank you very much

I have read that SX OS is supporting far more than 2 TB
I also tried putting the xci files in the root of the disk and still the same result
exfat support volume much bigger than 2 TB

Have you tried .nsp files to see if they are recognized? Im sure you have but it's worth asking I guess. It also may be as Game Over said some drivers dont work.

I do know windows does some weird things with formatting and maybe try a few external programs and see it the drive works after formatting with them but it may have something to do with the internal chipset of the hdd that is causing problems with reading.
I'm just throwing poop at the wall since I have a 4 tb wd my book that works fine with my twins switchs, well on one dock I should say. How old is the hdd?

I did not try nsp on this one since almost all my games are in xci format
I'll give t a try
Can you tell me what tool did you use to format your 4 tb my book drive and make it work.
Did you use one big 4 TB GPT partition formatted in exfat ?
Also do you use any specific USB port on the dock to make it work ?
I think one of my hdd is 4 years old and the other 2 years old
thanks for your suggestion

I've tried a 4TB Seagate Portable Drive, didn't work, I'm guessing there was a power Issue, so I transfered it all to a 8TB Baracudda Pro in a powered case, I get the same message when the switch scans the drive. Its an error and then I have to reboot the switch as the whole system crashes. Am I right in saying when using the hdd that I use the same file structure? Switch/xci - dlc - nsp - update? do I need to put any other files on the route of the hdd? and I've tried plugging in the drive to all of the usb ports, I get the same thing. Can someone advise me on what drive does work and i'll go and get one.

i have 1 TB Seagate with Orico Enclosure 2.5" and its self powered (no extra cable needed) and its working on my switch 6.2 exfat supported with SX OS 2.5.1 but i have only abt 20 XCIs so far and i renamed xci to stay under 64 characters filename and they are at root of hdd and i formatted it into exfat from windows 10 disk management and set to active partition.

Try start with abt 5 XCis loaded up with corrected file name.. try not use any special character as no "[([ whatever is it" even quote too if it's work then load another 5 xcis or have ur all xci's filenames check out.
when ya see "Scanning" and dont try to surfing during that mode until its done.

One thing, if you have bad xci or nsp files on hdd then it will freeze ur switch when ya load it from album...
