Here is a little background information about my xbox to help pinpoint the problem.

-Unleash X is my dashboard
-Current bios is evox512d2_g
-I have a 160 GB Hitachi Deskstar hard drive
-My mod chip is an X2.6 Lite
-My xbox is version 1.4

My current bios works just fine. I have space on the F and G partitions and I can put files on and access them just fine. But I run into problems when I upgrade the bios to v_5032.

I go through the process of flashing and it goes through successfully. But when I go to access my files, it doesn't detect anything on the F and G partitions that was put on the drive before the upgrade. For example, with the previous bios, I have 20 GB left on my hard drive. With the upgrade, I only have 20 GB to use and it doesn't detect the G partition at all.

I have tried LBA patching on the bios, but I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. Does anyone know what the problem might be with this?

Alright, I found out about the HEX editing and I successfully did that as per the instructions. But when I turn the system on, the bios just FRAGs.

Alrighty! I finally fixed the problem. For now, I am just going to tell what I did to fix it for archival purposes so don't mind me if everything seems too obvious.

The problem was indeed the partition setup within the bios file. Since my hard drive is 160 GB, I set it to 137GB and G partition takes the rest. So when updating the bios it must be in the same structure as the previous one.

There are programs that will do this for you such as X2ool, but I wasn't sure how to get that to work. It was then that I decided to go within the bios and edit the Hexidecimal values for it. I downloaded a program called Ultra Edit and did a line search for the value 0x1b04. Doing that takes the cursor over to a space that has 01 on it. That value means that all the space goes to a single F partition. To make it so that it can accomodate the extra space for those that have drives larger than 137 GB, you change the 01 value to a 02. After that, you save it, then flash it as you normally would and everything should work fine!

Indeed, it is only a problem of the bios not seeing eye to eye with the other. It's like someone working hard on a project only to have someone else to take care of the rest without any sort of briefing. After you brief the new person, only then will things work.

I hope that everyone else uses my example, that way one can see how specific problems are solved. In turn, maybe some sort of troubleshooting sticky thread could be made and people can refer to that. The modding community does make assumptions that everyone knows what they are doing, but it is nice for the noobs to know how to solve problems without having to search TOO hard.
