Can't boot to MS dash, flashes red

I originally softmodded my xbox and now it's chipped. Never really want to go on XBL, but I'm having trouble with HD cables, so I want to turn my chip off and use the MS dash to set up the HD (when I use evox or avalaunch, the picture is all scrambled).

When I turn the chip off, xbox starts up but flashes red and no image appears on the screen. Bad eeprom? Bad Flash? I have access to another xbox, but it's softmodded, if that'll do me any good.

I don't remember what bios I flashed with, it was such a long time ago.

Fairly sure this is because of your softmod. Not sure how you undo a softmod.

hmm. Well, would i have any luck if I formatted the whole drive, then reinstalled everything? Or what if I flashed my bios again? Or can you think of any workarounds for me to get HD on my xbox?

remove softmod
you can use auto installer deluxe 4 to reinstall MS dash as well as other dash like XBMC

I could do that- but how do I remove a softmod specifically? haha I got a new HDD since the softmod, but I guess there are other files that I need to get rid of?
