Cannot boot into X3CL - hardware problem?

Previous thread did not answer this question, so am reposting with what I learned from there...

My conifg:
Xbox 1.6
X3 soldered + Pro Switch
X3_1959 bios (v16+)

This config runs great with original drive installed (backup run fine, FTP, XBMC etc etc) - when I pull the drive cable and try to reboot with a new 160Gb Maxtor plugged-in, or NO drive at all, I frag and get an error 7 (HDD error).

I have tried booting holding down the WHITE key and just about every other key on the pad - no difference... Modified Flubber comes up, then several seconds later the greenscreen with error codes appears.

The same is true of all my other efforts to get it to boot into a drive swappable condition

I have built multiple coasters (CDR and DVDRs) from the various tutorials and none of these will boot either!

Help!? Peterle5

How do you have the jumpers on the new drive set? Primary or cable select? Everything else appears OK. Check the specifics of the Maxtor drive against those listed here - http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list ... my Maxtor 200Gb HDD, is fine, so I imagine yours will be too, but check the model number in the chart to be sure.

I'd say it was jumpers too ... or the cable not plugging in right. You should at least be able to get to the BIOS screen.

are you using a stock m$ controller ? (only plug in 1 controller) and remove all memory cards also !

hope this helps

d'OH!

I just bought a new WD160 Gb drive, dropped it in and it booted like magic into X3LC!!!! Did the format from there and dumped my backup stuff over FTP and we're back in business!!!

Lesson learned = the X3 will not boot to bios if :

A - NO hard drive is connected
B - A drive it does not LIKE is connected!

The Maxtor 160Gb drive I was using had been used and formatted in a Windows machine - it was working fine there, but not in the Xbox.

Thanks for all your help - Ple5.

Far from here!
That is strange because I have a 160 gig maxtor that I used to use in my pc, I took it out and installed it into my xbox and it worked fine(after format and stuff) :O
