I have an x3 installed on a v1.6 xbox. I'm trying, still, to flash the chip. I would like to get my computer and my xbox connected but have been having no luck. What I have is a PC with a NIC for my cable modem, which I plug into a switch, and then from the switch to the xbox. So it's PC - Switch - Xbox. When I do this the xbox tells me that tcp/ip is init. then tells me DHCP failed - Falling back to 192.168.0.99. I have also tried running the modem into the switch and the computer and xbox out of the switch. I can get internet to my computer, and the LAN led on the external switch on the xbox says it has connectivity. I have no idea where I'm goin wrong, I'm gonna get a crossover cable tomorrow and go from my NIC right to the xbox, if that doesn't work, I'm gonna throw it out the flippin window. Thanx for all your help.

P.S. I know my stuff about computers, but networking baffles me. I also know jack about xbox's, I'm suprised I got the chip runnin.

Hi Mate Are you using Win XP if so try turning on Internet connection sharing , Go to network connections right click your internet connection select properties , Advanced and tick ICS
Hopefully this might work
Found using crossover cable direct to pc was the best

I went out and got me a crossover cable and ran it directly from my pc to my xbox and it doesn't do anything still, same problem as b4. grrr this is frustrating.

go into the properties of your nic card on your pc and change it to static tcp\ip to 192.168.0.100, submask to 255.255.255.0 and use the cross over cable to connect the xbox to your pc.

P.S. Make sure your XBox IP address is one up or down from your IP address you set on your PC, both systems (xbox and PC) have to be set on Static.
Good luck

CAUTION!!

If you plan on using Xbox live service you need to do the folowing.

You need to have all programs and dashboard on the F drive only. Nothing can be changed or added on drives C and E. Once the chip is disabled F drive is not accessed therefore M$ can't see it. You need a bios that looks for a dashboard on drive F for this to work. X3 bios lets you change to boot from F but if you have a different chip you need a modified evox bios to look on drive F. Found this out after I was banned.

Hitachi Drive Flashing - A Few Questions

Hello,

I have a few questions before I try to mod my drive. I've tried modding my xbox years back when there was only command line tools that you had to boot using a boot disk and I managed to brick my drive. Any ways recently I got a RRoD'd xbox from a friend and managed to fix it with a heat gun, replacing x-clamp on the GPU, some arctic silver and I put in a few fans for the GPU and CPU heat syncs. It's running pretty good, staying nice and cool. Now I want to try and flash my drives firmware so I can play game backups. The drive I have is a Hitachi-LG version 47. I've been doing a lot of reading on the forums and reading various tutorials and I think I can do it with out bricking my drive this time but first I want to make sure I'm using the right stuff.

I got the latest JungleFlasher tutorial and that seems pretty straight forward to use. Now I'm wondering. Should I flash my drive with the 1.51 firmware or 1.4? I read that 1.4 works better with most games? and also I'm not to sure what the whole wave and stealth thing is about with the game backups, is there somewhere that explains it all in detail? And is JungleFlasher safe to use with the WinAPI instead of the PortIO32?

Also when Microsoft bans your xbox on live what actually are they banning? I've read that re-flashing back to stock firmware or flashing to an older firmware will "unban" or render you undetectable to microsofts ban list. I don't really care if I get banned since this is a free xbox anyways but it would be nice to know how to greaten my chance on not getting caught. :p

Re: Hitachi Drive Flashing - A Few Questions

I ran 1.4 for about 2 years without getting banned, but they got me on the last ban wave. The big difference is that you won't be able to play new games on 1.4, you need 1.51 for that. And by new I mean most games that came out in the second half of this year and on.
Jungleflasher is easy. I used PortIO32 so I can't comment on WinAPI.
When banned the actual console is banned by its ID number. Re-flashing it doesn't do anything.
