Can't Control Falsh Bios on XBOX

I have a 1.6 and my X3 is running Flash Bios 3.01. When my X3 boots, I can't use the contoler to select anything or move the selection up or down. My controller works fine when I boot the MS dash though and use it for games... please help, any suggestions?

Use an original MS controller or maybe the dvd dongle
