Yes i always run JF as admininstrator.

I probably should buy a x360usb pro alright. If i had one would i be able to get the key in my current situation? Is the via card my problem for not being able to obtain the key? Maybe it is, i dont know.

Measure resistance from mpx01 to GND without anything connected. From recollection, you should get something. If you don't, it might indicate you've damaged the point.

You can also test this by going through the steps but not putting the probe anywhere at all. It should yield the same result.

Here's what I do (if it helps).

Connect the drive and power on. The drive should remain powered on through this whole process.

Start JF.
Ensure I see the drive ID'd in the bottom left.
Run phat key.
Click the yes button and wait for the dots to appear.
Press the button down on the Probe 3 cable - light goes out on the probe.
Keep the button pressed down and put the probe on MPX01.
Release the button. This whole process should take you no more than 5 secs. If it's taking you longer than this to hold a button down, put the probe on the point and releasing the button, you're probably not suited to doing it in the first place.

You should get a success message and pop-up. Push the button down again and remove the probe from the point. Keep the button held for 2-3 secs, release and click the OK button on screen.

That should be it.

I did exactly what you said.

When i cycle power using the probe button, it never brings up status 0x52, it just stays on 0x51 with dots going across.
The 'extract complete' box does not pop up, just a 'phatkey failed' message box.

If i cycle power using the ck3, status 0x52 does come up but no dots follow it. I have to wait approx. 10 seconds for the 'extract complete' box.

If i have damaged the point or not putting the probe correctly on the point, status 0x52 shpuld never come up, nomatter what method i used to power cycle the drive, am i right?

Could there be something wrong with the probe itself? Maybe i damaged it. I dunno.

Anyway i will probably be sending it to J2G to sort it out for me.

What about this - did you try it?

I actually did do that yesterday, I remember trying it without using the probe, just to see what would happen, and it gave the exact same result as if I was using the probe and its switch for power-cycling (i.e. staying on status 0x51, with dots, and then the 'Phatkey Failed' box.

@BL4K3Y and @unkn0wn.92: thanks for the tip for cleaning, I read somewhere that cleaning the point is advised but I didn't know what I could use for cleaning that would be safe. Pencil eraser...nice :)

But honestly, I don't think I will touch the drive anymore, not even clean the point, I don't want to do anymore just in case I do more damage than good.

I will give J2G a ring soon and talk to him about it, I think his professional expertise would be the best route to take. :)

Do you mind leaving this topic open though, just in case J2G wants to post here if he finds something unusual, or if it doesn't work for him, or that he may find the potential solution and wants to mention it. Posting it here for others to read may help someone somewhere with a similar issue :)

Your Drive is sorted

I used your own probe v3 with a X360usb on your drive and even your M8 7s you sent me all good, i even went off and banged in a old VIA sata card i had and did it that way also no problems...

Sometimes its User error but a lot of the time its just some PC's with VIA sata card ...

We'll take is as being user error so ;)

As I have said before, I am just a monkey trying to follow a tutorial.

Outstanding work mate, look forward to getting the drives in the post, hopefully tomorrow, no doubt they will work perfect.

As I have already told J2G via text message, my console is working perfect and booting backups without issue.
My friend's falcon hdmi console is also working perfect.

For some reason, the fans on both our consoles keep running for a short period of time even after the console turns off. I don't know if that is anything to worry about, if anything it keeps them cool :) They shouldn't be overheating, I cleaned out the dust using a compressor air gun (not full force of course) and they appear crystal clean inside now.

Anyway, mods you can close this topic as my drives have been flashed and I have the keys. :)

Thanks once again J2G!

I'm glad you got them sorted, but as stated, this is why we advise you use an x360USB Pro :)

You've got 'background downloads' enabled.

Yup also stated this  . as it goes for the fans it is normal for some consoles fans to stay on for a short spell after, but these consoles where bought secondhand on ebay i think you said i only seen the drives .. so it would do no harm to recondition the thermal compound on the cpu & gpu and be very careful if your going to do this..

I do not have a clue or the equipment to do this :)

Yes they were both bought on eBay, from two different sellers in the UK, however I think they should be OK, I will take a chance :)

I have a feeling that my friends console hasn't done much work in its life, considering its old dash and good drive lens. Although I could be wrong. I'd say my own console has done more work in its life, when the laser goes, I might be sending the whole console to you for you to replace both lens and thermal compound on GPU and CPU, if you are willing to do so? :)

So if I disable background downloads, this issue with the fans will stop? Is it a bug with the 16202 dash or something?

Also worth noting, the consoles take a couple of seconds longer to turn off (ignoring fans), as in the center light on the main power button does flash a couple of times (the Power symbol, not the rings). Both consoles are acting the exact same way.
