Can't figure out how to load dashboards

I've spent hours going through the forums, reading the sticky posts, tutorials, etc. I have my new X3 in my v1.4 xbox. Booted right into the 3.0.1 flash bios. Download latest X3 1959 bios. That works fine. Put in a new 80G hard drived and partitioned it using the X3 disk tools. No prob. Used the X3 eeprom tools to update the backup bios to v3.0.3 flashbios. Downloaded and put the latest Slayer evox auto installer v2.6 final. Booted the disc into the installer fine. Ran the 'upgraded hd stealth f' install and after a reboot i always get the x3 bios screen. I used the x3 config bios section to change the default boot partition to f and made evoxdash.xbe at the top of the boot priority. It still boots into the x3 config bios. I used ftp to copy the evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini onto c. Changed the boot partition in x3 and rebooted. Still no evox dash, just x3.
I reformatted the hard drive and started all over. This time I just did the normal c install of the slayer installer. Still no evox, just x3.
So I figured I would try XBMC. I ftp'd that to c. default.xbe is on the root of c. So in x3 config I changed the boot filename to default.xbe and the boot partition to c. No XBMC, just x3 config.
I have no clue what to do to get this thing working.
Please help.
Thanks

All you need to do is go into the X3CL settings and set the option to boot into ConfigLive to no.

It will then boot to a dashboard.

What if I did that already? What do I need to edit?

It's all in the X3 n00b guide in the tutorials.

6. After this we need to tell the X3 Config Live program we do not need to boot directly into it. To do this: X3 Config Live -> Configure X3 Bios -> Autostart to X3 Config Live = Disabled.

It works!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thank You. I can't believe I missed that tutorial. I swear, I went over and over every other tutorial. I didn't even read the dashboard installation tutorial, because, in the forums there are several threads that talk about how much easier it is to just install a dashboard using the slayer cd.

Maybe on the next bios update they can add a feature where that entry actually jumps out and hits me in the face. I mean, the chip does just about everything else anyway. :)

I promise, from now on I will RTentireFM. Thanks again.

Martin,
I am having trouble with quix too. I have used Win RAR to un RAR the file of the Avalaunch dashboard, then, I used Qwix to convert the file into an ISO file. after creating the ISO file, I am left with a file called Avalaunch.iso but it has a RAR icon instead of the iso icon.

So I decided to go to options on the win RAR options and unselect ISO from associate win rar with under the integration tab.

ISO is selected by default to be associated with win RAR.

Now when I create an ISO file, windows doesn't know what program the file is associated with and has a blank icon?

I am reading everything I can about how to make this work, but I am stuck trying to make an install disk for the dashboard and can't seem to get past this step. I am running the X3 chip with build 1959 on a version 1.6 box.

UPDATED
So I guess I am not going to need to use the ISO Program. I found out that since I am using a router, I just needed to enable the DHCP on the XBOX and now I can transfer everything using FTP.

How sweet is that. Everything is up and running on day 2. Yesterday the mod came, Stayed up till 3AM installing it, and now All is good!!

THanks
Everyone.

I'm glad you got a working solution.

You actually did everything ok - although WinRAR delegates itself to control ISO files, that doesn't interfere with the process.

You just open Nero and burn the ISO file as you would any other ISO image.

Okay I have the same problem as pansatal7bar only I cannot use ftp to get avalaunch onto my xbox. I unrar the avalaunch file and I have tried using qwix to convert the avalaunch directory to an ISO and then nero to burn it. I have also tried converting the xbe file individually with qwix and burning that.

When I put the cd in my xbox and restart, it just goes straight to the X3_1959 bios. And when I disable boot to X3CL it just boots to the MS dashboard and says the disk is no good.

I have also tried leaving avalaunch as an xbe and using nero to burn it as an ISO but this also does not work. I know my xbox can read this media since it is how I got 1959 on there. I wish I had ftp, but I'm stuck doing it this way.

v1.0 with X3 and 1959.

you don't need to make an ISO file for Xbox disks - just try this:

Open Nero.

Select CD/DVD (whatever media you're using).

Choose CD(DVD)-ROM UDF/ISO.

Under the UDF box, tick the option for 'Force DVD-Video compatibility mode (For Xbox only)'.

Drag your files over to the layout, remembering that your avalaunch.xbe file must be called default.xbe.

You should see something like this :

media (folder)
shoutcast (folder)
default.xbe
avalaunch.xml

At this stage I'd drag over any file over 100MB and rename it to 1dummy.bin.

Just burn the disk with default settings.

Worked like a charm.

I know you are supposed to include it, but what's the purpose of the 1dummy.bin?

Well, the Xbox DVD-ROM can sometimes have trouble picking up the initial file on the directory structure.

For some reason, the initial sector on the CD-R/DVD-R can be tempermental.

By adding a file called 1dummy.bin (and of a good size), we are

a) ensuring that this file will be burned before any BIOS.BIN / default.xbe etc. and

b) giving the Xbox a fighting chance to read our REAL data file correctly!

I hope this makes sense!
