I just finished installing X3CE in my 1.6 (or 1.6b? I don't know the difference) XBOX. Both blue lights (3.3V and 5V) are on and the flash protection is off (green). Memory switch is set to ON ON OFF OFF. So I turn on the box and FlashBIOS 3.0.1 loads (no problems there.) Next I try to follow the flashBIOS tutorial. I connect the box to my PC through a network router , start up Firefox and connect to HTTP server, just like the tutorial described. I click the 'Browse' button, select the correct bin file (3294.v16plus) and then click 'Upload'. The status bar in Firefox says "Sending request" and then nothing happens. A letter 'P' appears right below the IP information on TV screen, but besides that, nothing.

I then tried to write the BIOS on CD-RW and DVD+RW but the xbox coudn't read the media. I burned a DVD+R and it read it but did not find the BIOS. The only option left is to put the bin file onto the HD, but I don't know how. Can I connect it directly to my PC? Do I need to unlock it first? Please help, this is really frustrating :( .

Network or Disc flashing are really the best options. If it is a 1.6b you will require FlashBIOS 3.0.3. The memory type is usually the best way to determine this. Look for memory chips on the motherboard which say Hynix or Samsung.

FlashBIOS 3.0.3 should be loaded on banks 5 through 8 of the X3. Try switching to one of those banks then boot up. Now, adjust switches back to one of the 1Mb settings and try flashing over the network again.

I was able to flash the damn thing after removing spaces in the bios filename. I wonder if anyone else had the same problem.
