HITACHI 79 Can't flash hitachi drive with CK3I

Ive been having this problem for some time now. I have had lots of issues with Hitachi drives, Taking ages to get mode B, Getting mode B the drive not showing, 79's not unlocking with the CD, Tried new cables, But still the same. Before I had the CK3I, I made my own little box with switches etc, that works fine with all Hitachi drives.

My thoughts, the CK3I is struggling to give the power to the drive that you dont need with Sammy, Benq and Liteon.

Anyone else had this problem?

If you are having trouble setting Mode B using the CK3i, do it with JungleFlasher instead (make sure that the Mode B switch on the CK3i is OFF).

Tried it, Still having the same problem. The problem is more noticeable with 79 drives, but that's going to be down to the drive needing more power, opening and closing, spinning the disc and reading the disc

Hitachi v79 drives require 12v to insert and read the unlock CD.

If it ejects and spins up fine, your CK3i is fine.

Another thing that happens, the laser will move backwards and forwards a small amount repeatedly, this has happened on a number if hitachi drives.

Since I bought my X360USB Pro v2, I've flashed a handful of Hitachi drives and I haven't had a single issue.

It uses the same CK3i hardware which leads me to believe that your issue may be more to do with your setup than your CK3i.

Are you taking 12v from your computer's PSU or are you using an external power supply?

I'm assuming you've checked the 12v/5v output from the PSU before it gets to the CK3?

Yep, that's fine, it is fed from the pc power supply. It works with my own little box. The ck3i did used to be ok, it's just over the past few months its been playing up
