How do you connect your programmer? with a cable or direct into the port?

I had the same problem as you. I connected my programmer right into the printer port and there was no blue ligth. I changed my printer port settings and no change. There was a couple of things I noticed and I changed and then it just worked :)

- When you change your printer port settings, check what I/O port it is using. My laptop was using 03BC (or whatever) and make sure you select the same in the programmer.

- Reboot your PC with the programmer attached. (that fixed it for me)

Also a note in the end. I forgot first to connect my switch to the chip when using the programmer. Make sure you do that, set the switch so it doesn't write protect the chip and select bank 1.

If that doesn't work, what error message in the programmer do you get?

Make sure you have your switches connected to the chip as kim recommended. I found that the blue LED is actually switched on via the switch bank. This power that lights the LED may also trigger other components of the chip to become enabled. Since there is no D0 wire involved when using the programmer I don't know if the base function of the enable/disable switch serves any purpose, but you definitely won't "see the light" without it.
