its a 2.6 version 1.4 or 1.5, with a new western digital 160 gig. i modded it and gave it to a friend. after 2 weeks i get error 5, hd unlocked. so i try putting a locked hd in, the stock one, and i get error 6, hd locked. i then took the 2.6 (working) out of my xbox and put it in his, only to get the same result. is it possible that the xbox is no longer able to lock or unlock the hard drive? could the bios be doing this somehow? ive checked the solder points, the ide cable, im frickin stumped. if any has any insight on this it would be appreciated.

1. Is the stock HDD definitely from your 1.4/1.5 Xbox?
2. Have you meddled with the EEPROM at any time.
3. Error 05 means the HDD is unlocked which is not a problem if the chip is enabled. Is the chip definitely working?

the xbox wont boot whether the chip is on or off
im almost positive the emprom hasnt been messed with
u think there is anything in the evox or avalaunch dashboards that this idiot could have messed up? its so bizare
i havent tried it with the original hd, its not at my current location. ha i left it at the idiot kid's house. the xbox was running for 2 weeks, do you think itd be worth trying it with the original hd?

I would say the chip isn't connecting properly. Error 05 only appears if the retail BIOS is used (eg chip disabled) or it's a really old Xecuter BIOS (very improbable).
I reckon the original HDD will work, but will only boot to MS Dashboard.
There is no backup BIOS on the 2.6 - a common misconception. Try booting from bank 2, if there's nothing happening there either then 99% the chip isn't connecting or the d0 has come loose.

i resoldered all of the points, and they are strong. connected it all up and it still gives me the old 05 frag. im about to throw this piece out the window. frickin halo edition. any suggestions?

i just now resoldered the D0. still nothing. by the way heres a fun fact. step 1: i plug the xbox in step 2: turn on xbox, error 5 and a joyous frag step 3: unplug xbox and swear 2-3 times step 4: press power button accidently (power cable detached) and WOW the power, switch, and chip led's all flash
could that mean something? everything lights up normally with power to it, thats all fine. its just wierd that it will flash quick with the power cable detached

If it boots to m$dash with modchip on or off check your D0... if D0 connection is okay, then it might be a bad switch...
