Hi! I just installed X3 with Xapt3r and alsh it with the latest bios. But the thing is that there's no way to turn it off only by unpluggin the power cord, I double checked the power and reset adapter that came with my X3 and everything is connected alright? What it could be?

Thank you for your help.

Hi! Yesterday I installed my X3 with Xapt3r I double check with the pictures and guide from teamxecuter and xbox-scene. I put my DVD and HDD back and conected everything and plug the power cord and the xbox turn on by it self.

I flash it with the latest bios using a CD-RW and evrything went smooth.

But, I cant turn it off by pressing the power button or even use the eject button. I have tu pull the power cord in order to turn it off.

I opened to checked and everything is conected in the power and reset adapter that came with my X3.

Any ideas? Thank you.

i would unhook the power/eject board and hook the cable back straight to the motherboard and see if it still powers on by itself if it works right i would look for solder bridges on the power/eject board.

pull off the sticky tape on the back of the power/eject board and see if there is any solder bridging the connections.

but even if I conect the power and eject button to the motherboard it doesnt want to turn on.

i remember that i smelled smoke the first time I turn it on with the chip But It was from the yellow cables of the power/eject button

Just check the wires from the power button to the mobo. Not stripped at all? If there has been smoke===== bad news!! just check them you may have stripped them and shorted them

sounds like you shorted out your led/switch board, which seems kind of hard to do when you think about it. if you have another xbox around, try using it's power/eject switch and light board to turn on your box. if that works, you can buy replacements on ebay for cheap (with cool new colors, no less) and i'd recommend electrical taping the hell out of the back of the board. if that doesn't work, well, best of luck :)

Whenever the smoke leaks out, bad things happen. See this link for the connection between smoke and electroincs.

If you are looking for help, it really helps if you give all the information up front - knowing you saw smoke would have been better 2 days ago when you first posted this thread. We could have started laughing sooner ...

Nice article!

I remember about 6 years ago, I was backing up one IDE hard drive to the other. I just had the one I was backing up to sitting out in the open. I didn't realize I was shorting out the board on the bottom of the drive to the tower's chassis. When I turned the old AT power supply on, well, that was the most electrical smoke I've seen in my life. That little Western Digital put on quite a show. :)
